Fred's 1998 C34 Nissan Stagea 25X Four Wagon
Re: Fred's 1998 C34 Nissan Stagea 25X Four Wagon
All ready to rumble, minus the 12mm ratchet ring which is hiding from me for the time being. Probably don't need it anyway. < Typed? Last night and forgotten, I think, posting now out of sequence!

Re: Fred's 1998 C34 Nissan Stagea 25X Four Wagon
I went out of my way to get this head because it was quite clean, just a light
varnish, no sludge at all. Japanese engines are rarely this clean, for example
there was another RB25DE there that was coated with black carbon deposits
about 1-2mm thick, everywhere. Not a fan of engines this grubby, but most
are. So to see this one with only yellow stains in some parts of the top end
was a pleasure, and I thought about grabbing it there and then, but there
wasn't time and I didn't have all tools required with me.

Missing a few things, like cam cover tin that's not bent, and coils/brackets for
them, etc, but fundamentally, this is a good base for the 600hp RB30DET goal :-)

Re: Fred's 1998 C34 Nissan Stagea 25X Four Wagon
Waiting for the wife this evening, I pulled the panel off, identified the
plug/socket combo, disconnected it, did the brakes N times quickly,
and the flashing 4wd light came up. Tested shortly afterward there
was a puff of smoke and away we went with some squealing. Good.
So then I dropped off the mrs at home and went and found a dark
quiet place to perform a more entertaining and extensive test. OK.
One small white cloud and away I went, slightly satisfied at my
first NA RB powered burnout since 2007. Nice.
I can do better, I wrongly thought. And went off to find another
dark quiet street to retry in, this time locking into a low gear so
as to hold the smoke up the street longer. No dice. Excess grip.
Strange. Then again, both spun, rotating toward the footpath I
was. But strange noises were occurring.
Then I realised that the right rear had gone flat and proceeded
to dawdle home at a crawl to preserve the slightly tortured tyre
sidewall. Made it. Tyre looks OK. Needs air, and likely a puncture
repair and balance, too. Carnage: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 1259177984
So then, new priority for this car, LSD :-) Though I could have similar
amounts of fun with either of the Volvos with addition of the G80, too.

Re: Fred's 1998 C34 Nissan Stagea 25X Four Wagon
Fixed this last night and refitted it. Need to source an LSD for this so I can have some proper
circular fun in it, like the old days, but with 45 more horsepower and 300 more kilograms.
Holy tyre, batman: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 4755595268

This thing did 350km this evening, in 4 hours 36 minutes, that's a 76kph average, peak maybe 125 or so? Not sure.
Pretty bad conditions, was mostly aiming for safe arrival.

Re: Fred's 1998 C34 Nissan Stagea 25X Four Wagon
And another 360km today, in 4 hours and 9 minutes, average of 86.747 kph, non-stop, except topping up one tyre on the way out of town.
And it's ~1k overdue for an oil change, assuming I put ordinary stuff in. 236642km now, last changed at 230740km just over a year ago.
Obviously not putting a lot of miles on this one! But it does most of the big road trips because it's a safer car, especially when wet.
Next stop, new block of land for some measuring and marking :-)
Was good to catch up with Presto and his Mrs: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 2306757633

Re: Fred's 1998 C34 Nissan Stagea 25X Four Wagon
Finally got around to modifying this in a key way, earlier, in the cold, and rain, outside, in the dark, sub-optimal conditions for soldering, but:

Also had the right rear tyre fixed again on Monday arvo while feeling like crap. Hopefully it holds out for 500km or so, at least.

Re: Fred's 1998 C34 Nissan Stagea 25X Four Wagon
Motherfucker (singular) stole my wheel! Neighbour has footage of it - took the idiot over an hour to steel one wheel. Mostly walking to/fro his probably flat-tyred car. Occurred between 2am and 4am on Sunday morning. Nearly 48 hours ago, now.
All I have to show for it is a bald snow tyre on a mismatched wheel (ones I used to have on the Lantis) and 5 new blocks of untreated pine! :-/ Skinny tall white guy. Shorts tshirt. Sounds like a Nissan Silvia/Skyline owner to me.
