Yes, plastic case with zero shielding, and lowest possible cost/highest possible margin :-)
There's also this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYec40tugsQ
I wonder if their max circuits are correct or not. Easy to test with one in your hand.

surely the letters PRO are going to add another $500

$200 for each letter

Re: MegaSquirt goes Pro
I have to admit that I'm drawing a similar conclusion here.
I was looking at an MS3+MS3x at US$645 from DIYAutotune and as far as I can see, this 'new' MS3-Pro at US$1200 doesn't appear to be significantly different.
- Built in knock sensor stuff
- Built in RTC
- 'Single-board' PCB design
- Finally, some decent plugs so that it's more able to withstand getting damp under the hood
I am having issues justifying that being worth an extra (pun intended) US$550?
Then I started comparing an MS3Pro with something more 'local' (to me at least).
The MS3Pro would work out to around NZ$1650 and I'm betting the 'optional extras' would quickly push that well over NZ$2000.
(For example, the 2 wiring looms for the older MS3+MS3x work out around NZ$225 and I'd bet the 'waterproof plugs' loom for an MS3Pro would cost more!)
I can get a Link G4-Xtreme for NZ$2100.
It INCLUDES the looms (no 'extra' charge)
It INCLUDES the PCLink G4 tuning software (no 'extra' charge)
Link has 20-25 years of 'history' in building ECUs
I have ready access to DOZENS of truly professional tuners who simply 'know' the Link tuning software inside out and upside down
I MUST be missing something here. WHY should I even contemplate buying an MS3Pro?
Maybe I should buy a G4 and just 'hide' it in the vehicle.
I'd then install an EMPTY plastic box with a bunch of random wires plugged into it 'under the hood'. (And in bold felt pen, write the letters "ECU" prominently on the box).
I can imagine going down to the dragstrip and popping the hood. Some peoiple will inevitably ask about that 'ECU' box.
I'd explain that it's my latest 'preemptive EFI design'. (Surely they'll ask what a 'preemptive EFI design' ECU is?).
Then I'd just fire up the vehicle, and proceed to DISCONNECT the box altogether whilst explaining to them that the box had 'preemptively' setup all the associated hardware for the upcoming race.
Willing to bet I'd 'fool' about 95% of them too!!!
I'm not sure yet whether I should include a Micro$oft Logo on the box, or perhaps a rendition of Tux, the Linux penguin?
Aww what the heck, perhaps an Apple and a Lemon 'side-by-side' would be best?

Perhaps I can help you here:TheRevva wrote:I am having issues justifying that being worth an extra (pun intended) US$550?
Do you really want that running your engine?
Just gut uh lunk, bro! :-)I can get a Link G4-Xtreme for NZ$2100.
I wouldn't. But then of course I wouldn't... :-) If you REALLY want to rock a shitty MS3 based box, why not do as Justin suggested in this thread and buy a legit MS3 CPU card, then move the CPU itself onto a better designed board? You could base it off of RavAGE or Jaguar and just not tell anyone that you did it. Personal use is a legitimate reason for copyright violation, EVEN in the USA.I MUST be missing something here. WHY should I even contemplate buying an MS3Pro?
LOL, quite likely.Willing to bet I'd 'fool' about 95% of them too!!!

Re: MegaSquirt goes Pro
MS3 Pro now availiable from DIYAutoTune, $1199. http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/ms3p ... p-538.html
It looks about the size of 2 microsquirts joined edge to edge. http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/micr ... p-519.html.
By this logic it should only costs $600.

It wasn't even the real deal!!! Fraudsters :-) "The o-ringed case is splashproof and, if you want continuous immersion resistance (the MS3-Pro displayed at PRI was at the bottom of a fish tank), it's easy to add a bead of silicone for extra protection."

What a scam.... their MAIN selling point at PRI was the fact that you can run it in a fish tank...

MacDonald's became a global empire selling shit on a bun, so more power to the MS folks for pinching out two for the price of four. It'll certainly encourage potential customers to look for alternatives.
