Hi, Dan asked me to post up some pictures of my rides here, so here's a swift overview of my current collection:

My nr1 project is a 1984 Toyota Corolla GT Coupe, known to most as an ae86 levin coupe.
This was my first car, and it has a special place in my heart. Good thing, because it would
otherwise surely have gone to the scrapheap (20/20 hindsight on the rusty state of the car).
Here it was in the early days (2003):


Pulled her apart around 2007 for obvious reasons:


Got delayed, nothing much happening up till last year when I moved into a large garage unit with a bunch of
my old car nutter friend from the south of the Netherlands (Brabant).
Since then I have been welding 2 to 3 weekends each month (yikes!).

It is now in the finishing stages of welding.

Then there is the volvo 360, bought as a cheap track trasher, stuck around and is now awaiting turbo power (B21ET).
Had an MS2 lined up for it, but maybe you guys here will change my mind (pointers to threads about why I shouldnt use it are
welcome, I love making educated decisions).




And last but not least: my brother and mine shared project: A 1985 Toyota Corolla GT-S, better known as Trueno hatchback.
We bought it with a CA18DET installed, but it was frankly a mess and totally unreliable.
Therefore it is now in the hands of a capable chassis builder for full works, we will be sending an F20C for it soon as I buy the
gearbox for it.





Finally a quiz for all you 4age loving kiwi's: Anyone recognize this bloke?

Didn't think it would be guessed in the first response. Met the man once many moons ago when
he was piloting his 747 to Amsterdam, small legend of the early days for ae/4ag enthusiasts. Reminds me of a time when most of the known
86's in the Netherlands were still in drivable condition, 8 out of 10 have ended up as projects, some dead, some ongoing.

My brothers AE86 had rust in the rear in the exact same spot as yours! We spent months grinding, welding and fixing that mess.

Damn it sucks that I got in late on the quiz, but I am an aussie and not a kiwi? does that mean I am the first aussie to answer you?

From this side of the planet, the difference is negligible (didn't catch on to the ozzy/kiwi thing in time when hurrying that post online).
I've been welding for almost a full year now, it's hard to get much time in because I have to drive 110km to get to the shed.

There's a full build thread @aeu86.org and a more condensed version on the retro-rides forums, this is not the place to start another mirror,
I'm keeping my progresss updated on 3 forums already. I'm just glad I managed to get my finger out and do actual work the past year rather
than just being a keyboard jockey. There are enough off those around on forums already as you probably well know.

You underestimate the 4AGE love present here! :-)

My ex girlfriend has a blacktop powered AE111 Levin, which she has occasionally let me thrash, even after the split :-) She even let me track it when my skyline was broken by surprise the day before we were leaving to the track day. Top chick :-)

I crossed email with Bill a few times arguing about his claims about blacktop power levels which I believe are octane related. I say this because of may reasons, such as: I had an angry race with a fuckwit in a type R teg one night, and we passed my driveway at 140kph (in a 50) without him having pulled an inch. Plus they'll run mid/low 15s on the quarter stock.

I also crossed emails with his grumpy kiwi friend, though that ended in him abusing me for being an irresponsible hoon responsible for increased insurance costs :-o silly old prick. lol.

Bill also has a kiwi car, the Fraser. Neil Fraser was/is supposed to be my cert guy for the truck, one day, if/when it ever gets that complete/safe/legal :-)

Not taking any stabs yet, I've only been lurking for a few weeks y'know.

About claimed 4age power output levels:
I choose to disregard any preconceptions about this. Need dyno proof, preferably comparative results on the same dyno.

I once had an opportunity to see many types of 4age dyno'd at a toyota club meet near the place I used to work on my volvo 360.
Gave me a good general impression of actual output, even if only proportional (which dyno is dependable enough to call absolute?).
Silvertop 20v's got between 120-130 whp,
Blacktops where pushing 140-142 whp at best.
A friend of mine dynoed his tuned 16v (ported head, catcams 272/260, 10.3 oem high comp pistons, stock exhaust with 55mm pipe beyond last
merge, standard ecu) and netted 134 whp, spanking every silvertop present, lagging a little behind the (mostly stock) blacktops.

Myself I am at the moment planning to go back to 16v, I'm on a puristic streak (that and I have a full rebuild kit colecting dust in the closet).
I wouldnt mind some ITB's on there (hayabusa seems a nice choice price wise) to prevent getting too bored, hence my interest in ravAGE freeems.
The trueno will satisfy the 'moar powerrr' moments just fine I expect.

Right, this lines up with 165ps engine output perfectly ;-) Toyota's numbers add up. And if you dyno an engine on shitty fuel and it makes shitty power, you shouldn't be surprised. I have a lot of respect for Bill, but on that he's wrong.

Moving my volvo build forward, scrounging engine parts together.
First toys have arrived:

-Corvette LS2 logic level coils
-Chevy Avalanche plug wires
-Matching sub harness (now just need to source that big connector at a decent price)
-Chrysler Cirrus crankshaft position sensor.

VR conditioners arrived as well, will be designing some boards around them myself, can combine them with some reworked boards for my RGB tach
project that I need to have made anyway.


Have some EV6 injectors off a Saab 9-3 Viggen (2.3 turbo, 373cc/min) on their way from the UK.. ordered those a week before I ordered the
ignition stuff from Rock-Auto (US), and they still havent arrived.. the Channel appears to be a bigger challenge for postal services than the Atlantic.

Now all I really need to add is a decent TPS sensor, but I think I will just source it from a wrecking yard as they aren't that cheap to buy new.

Will be attempting the brave (and perhaps foolish) feat of running that old B21ET on MS2 (please no profanity, it's been sitting in the closet for
6 years and I figure I might as well use it). Running coil-near-plug on Renix 44-2-2 + single tooth cam sensor, because I'm stubborn.
I will try to get running on distributor first as I have noticed 1 VB921 on my M$, might be an easier place to start.

The lump, a B21ET, K-jet head replaced by later the electronically injected, better flowing B200 head.


I figure if it will run, it would be a good candidate for some dabbling with FreeEMS stuff later. I intend to keep the harness as flexible as
I can, meaning tactically placed connectors for all the important stuff.
