Is there anyone selling readymade units for a reasonable price.
How can I get involved on the cheap?

No, no ready made units are available yet, and none will be for a little while, as there is far too much testing and stabilising to do. If you bought a unit right now, you'd probably have to hack it and rework it within the next few months. IE, we're not ready for users, just for enthusiastic testers. Getting involved on the cheap = hard work. Nothing is really free. It either costs you time or money or both, in this case, lots of time :-)
