Try using Ubuntu 11.10 32bit version and follow my document...

I have setup my 1st Debian workstation already
The eeePC 1000h is a 2nd hand machine i got yesterday.
I had used gparted and squeezed the winxp ntfs partition to 50G.
Debian 6 and FreeEMS tools had been installed nicely
