If you haven't already heard of the BeagleBoard, then it's a 3" x 3" PC that runs Linux or Windows Embedded.
Costs $149, and for that you get laptop performace, on board video and sound. Just add flash, and your peripherals.

Beaglesride.org is focusing on the in-vehicle side of it, staring with an intelligent PSU. Any help would be well received.
Could make a very good companion for FreeEMS.

These are handy devices, a common problem with them is temperature. They typically are a Class A temperature device, we need at least Class C often also called industrial grade. Class A is room temp only.

Yeah, I got quite excited when I first saw the gumstix. I like the modular design, but it starts to get expansive when you factor in all the parts you need. Beagle gives you the performance to run a Linux or Windows desktop, with on-board video for $150. Just add screen, USB hub, mouse & keyboard. Completely open sourced too, including the hardware designs.

I looked over the data sheet, it didn't note the temp range. Most or it's parts look like they can handel a large swing, but I don't know of all of them can.
