WOF done, battery charged, fang taken, fun had, love this engine: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 7996512257
Seriously, I've had such a good time driving this thing around today.

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
Gave it a good motorway thrash this evening! She just loves revving out high and hard :-D
Starting pretty well since I charged that battery up, too. Every time so far. Fingers crossed
it lasts a little while. I'll try to establish which one is best for the next swap in advance, though.
She also did caravan moving chores this evening :-)

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
This car participated in the record breaking event on Saturday resulting in a total of eight cars and two trailers being driven/dragged in just one day.
Then on Sunday night I went to take it out and found the wing mirror completely destroyed, again. Sigh. Photo to come, once I get one. :-(

As promised: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 7802682368
Jumped it, warmed it up, filled it up with 98, gave it a thrash, brought it home, put it on charge, hoping for a trouble-free commute tomorrow in it :-)

I do love hammering this amazing little engine :-D

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
Daily driven for the last few days, but I broke it: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 1357718529
Door to door donation seeker was admiring the Volvo caravan and came back to talk to me. I shut him down pretty quickly, but then he knocked again to tell me the boot light was on. Went out and sure enough, it was, though I'd not used the boot for weeks/months. Hmmm. So I thumped it to try to seat the hatch, and cracked the wing. Ooops. Didn't help, either. While standing there chatting the light was flickering on/off slowly in a random cycle. Explains the drained batteries. Opened it up and turned it hard off.

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
Gave this dirty girl a bit of a scrub up today. The lichen in the above photo is all gone. As have the larger growths. No chain saw required, yet, but getting that way.
I even acid cleaned the wheels for the first time since they came home from Christchurch in the KP60!

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
Although in the light of day, and dry instead of wet, I had missed a few bits, the car looks completely transformed. It looked rough and dirty and neglected, and now it actually looks reasonably respectable for the most part. I mean, I know it's still rough and dirty and neglected, at least, on the inside (take it how you want), but it now looks fairly good. Win.

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
Nearly two months later, pulled it off the side of the road and got it a fresh WOF and swapped in the battery from the 240 sedan (with badly rooted engine).
She's back in service and available for abuse. I always forget how much fun this car is until I drive it again :-)

I should give it another clean and find a wing mirror for it...

Re: Fred's 1994 Type R Mazda Lantis
A few weeks back when I first ran the 240 sedan on the DOHC setup I took the battery back out of this, and it sat abandoned since then.
Picked up a green wing mirror for it some weeks ago (before or after that, not sure), too. May one day install it... :-p Though I'm quite used to the stump now, and I mostly drive it to redline at night on empty streets, so mirrors aren't much of an issue.
Yesterday I bought a new used battery for it and last night by pressure of this morning's "commute" I installed it and took it for a drive.
GREAT little car. Always enjoy driving it, especially after a hiatus. Such a sweet engine even if it's idling rough with a miss. Still spins 7500 and provides buckets (2.0 buckets, precisely) of torque. So sweet.
Arguably my roughest car. Also my fastest road legal car. And probably my most fun because of that, in that way, anyway. Zero "this car is cool" fun factor, though, all down to how it works.

(the little one on the right, NS60L, though it should have been an NS70L, it's good enough)
