You: KP62 drop hatch
Pearl Wilson, Toyota Mechanic's Assistant: What year is your Toyota?
You: I told you
Pearl Wilson, Toyota Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?

So just the reg 4 to go :-)
Wrong, this is looking into the wiring side. Found this:

"W910 - Adapts Nippondenso "E-F-N" external regulator alternators to "F-E-N" green plug. Adapts Lester # 14153 to 14273."

Image

Ref: http://store.alternatorparts.com/japanese.aspx

Which is actually irrelevant anyway, they're Earth Field Neutral, and would all feed the reg as in the above pic.

So I need to:

Find the L/lamp wire in the regulator and connect it to the same on the Nissan which I'm still unsure about which pin is which. But I have a plan to find out for myself.
And connect S to the battery on a dedicated wire.
And bridge from the stud to the battery through a fusible link if available.
Remove other wires that I don't and won't ever need.

Tested. Thin wire on the connector I have is the two-diode drop to ground, ie, the excite line to the lamp. Thick wire must be sense.

Why I didn't do that in the first place, I have no idea. My mind insisted on finding a spoon fed internet image of the thing.

I can trace the 3 pin alternator plug to the regulator plug and rule those pins out, the two big ones are obvious, and the final one is to the lamp!

I have photos, will tweet from the bus tomorrow morning and post afterward. Bed now.

Tomorrow evening I'm out for dinner, but Thursday evening I will try to complete this work and get it back together and running again.

Checking now in broad daylight, the photo of the Nissan alternator is correct to my one, too. And the diagrams online that agree are alternator side, not loom side.

So tweets from the night before and last night, oldest to newest, all uploaded this morning, not at the time of taking them:

LOL, nice. Tonight I did just the above posts, then had dinner and wine with sister and her man and my wife.

Tomorrow evening two things are happening:

1) I'll try to wire this up, hook up the radiator, and fire up the engine with some "start ya bastard"
2) I'll have a visit from a certain firmware hacker of the highest grade in which we'll attempt to do good stuff
3) I'll drink a cider and eat some chips, both of 100% natural ingredients, or similar.

Until then, good night!

Stripped some loom out of it tonight, and found that the regulator didn't intercept the big wire like I thought it would (foolish n00b). Instead two of the big wires, the two white ones, are full-time raw 12V to the battery. The BIG yellow one is the warning lamp light! And the small yellow/black one must be a 12v feed to the relays in the regulator or something like that. So I've dead-ended the small one and the other two are ready to hook to the Nissan plug. The length is just right, so it's a matter of two joints and some tape and/or shrink sleeve and/or loom cover. We'll see how I go tomorrow night, but if I can be bothered I could get her wired, filled, and running again :-)

Also forgot to mention that I single-handedly removed the bonnet for clean up and better light while doing wiring stuff. It's off.

Seems I went well! Got the alternator wiring done, refitted the alternator and belt, fitted the radiator and did up all hose clamps, fired her up with some "start ya bastard", warmed her up, and she sat there idling with 14.0v on the terminals! Previously was in the low 13v region. Yay. Some motivation to get the front tin sorted out and cleaned up and back together with new style headlights. Will probably get it out on Saturday and waterblast the front in preparation for some panel/paint stuff.

Repacked and tensioned the right front wheel bearing this evening. And cleaned and greased the sliders which were dry and stiff. The pads are so tapered that I won't put them back in as it'll just stress things in funny ways, so I need to source some pads for it.

Also cleared the garage almost ready for bringing it out. Parts on roof need to move, and wheel needs to go back on with something stopping the caliper from popping a piston out should I forget and touch the pedal.

Looking forward to water blasting the whole front end, likely with it hot and idling so I don't flood anything irritating in the process. One night this week, for sure!

Picked up new pads on the way home and then ran it up to temperature again yesterday, and drove it up and down the driveway to bed in the RHS pads I threw in it after lubricating the sliders and packing/adjusting the wheel bearing on that side. Neighbours must love me...

Today, with luck, soon, LHS:

Bearing adjust
Slider lubricate
Pad install

And coolant top up after proper heat cycle. I think it drank more than the bottle held. I also think the bottle return tube is too short and needs adjustment/supplementing.
