What a crap thread! I saw this thing for the first time in 3 years yesterday. Looking forward to making progress on it once again. Need finances first, though.

Polished valve cover is all oxidised. Hope it buffs out. Much like I hope the rod hole buffs out of the block :-D

Today I purchased a part for the ute: A new battery. The old one is in the hotel and is marked 2009 from when I bought it. Will try to get it installed and get the entire thing out of storage tomorrow. Wish me luck. And dryish weather, too.

Re: Fred's 1989 Holset Turbo F8-DOHC Mazda Truck! (2nd)
I recently pledged to work on this every day until it runs again. Today was the fifth day straight, with only two sessions before the pledge. Making lots of progress! Current status is as follows:
New block is partly stripped and cleaned and up on the stand.
Front and exhaust side of the engine are clear of all parts!
Intake side needs to be stripped of manifold, ignition and fuel system parts.
Then head can come off and new engine can be built up ready to swap in.
Block stays in as long as possible to facilitate moving via starter motor.
ECU for it is in the country in kit form, and needs assembly too. Keen to get it running again after such a long hiatus. Lots of good development to be done using it as a test hack. A 400hp wild bucking bull of a test hack, but a test hack nonetheless.

New engine may find its way into the ute tomorrow with luck and hard work :-D Dun nun nun. Goal is to have it running again on fresh firmware by mid January at the latest.

Re: Fred's 1989 Holset Turbo F8-DOHC Mazda Truck! (2nd)
Nope, shockingly bad weather today, strong wind, lots of rain, so I mostly spent time inside, and buying things, like weekly shopping and other junk.
Will see what I can get done evenings this week. Wednesday will be a write off, though. And after wednesday I'll have to take it very easy phsyically for a week or two. Fortunately the crane and stand mods mean I can still do big work, just with minimal effort. Fingers crossed that I'm not too broken.
