Daniel's Volvo B5234T 5Cyl 2.3 Turbo (22nd)

Post by em_knaps »

After about a week of buggering about in the shed with an engine on an engine stand:

and a day or 3 pissing about with the ecu from my Citroen GS Turbo (R.I.P):

And a custom 20 tooth flywheel trigger:

and by custom I mean I took to it with some tin snips and an angle grinder.

A few more pictures........

Volvo 960 B6304 COP's

The radiator from my dead Supra:

Volvo cam sensor:

Makeshift Fuel tank with intank Bosch pump:

and finally some video:

It runs a "Special Edition" 20+1 decoder and some larger than normal tooth tollerances
all OEM sensors aside from the GM IAT sensor.

standard 320cc injectors,
runs surprising well for batch firing all 5 injectors.
COP's have hitachi modules controlling them.

I'd like to thank Fred for harrassing me to use my TA homebake ECU on something.

And my mum.

Nice job!

Now you are going to have to stuff that engine into some kind of
car.

Are those the stock orange top injectors you are using?

What are you using for settings for them (dead time, flow rate)?

I've got four of those in the manifold of my redblock, I'm
supposed to measure them today, but I'd rather spend the time
installing them and plumbing the pump in.
<@TekniQue> but in the end, it's code that makes a computer useful

I can answer the settings part of that :-)

As long as you do actually measure them later, that is ;-)

320cc/min untouched from Slater days. Unsure if that's even close to accurate? Likely not. He likes it rough, hence favouring MS1 for all of these years :-)

Dead time is stock curve which everyone except Hentai has used AFAIK. It's gotta be close in most cases, but wrong in all cases.

If you want some base settings, have a solid search and see what you can figure out.

Fred.

Yea Sim, im going to stuff it into a merc 190e. I think. my choice might change yet.

standard yellowish tops,
specs said ~310cc so i thought 320 would be just fine

it runs a little fat here and a little lean there but thats cos the slater engine's VE table that im using was optimised for a low compression half rooted 2valve engine. (RIP)

Ill push it outside today so it doesnt fume my place out again, and do a little more tuning
theres not alot you can tune on an engine with only a flexiplate for load.

If you can secure it better, there is. WOT is WOT even in neutral :-)

If the 310 cc/min figure is @ 85% duty, then you should put 310 / 0.85 ~= 365 into that place. Source? Link?

Research time of injector size = 65% of actual time needed to discover the actual flow rate.

so if it is 15% incorrect I thnk thats an acceptable result. :-P
