So, hi. I'm gonna introduce myself. I'm Adam, I'm from Glasgow. Nothing exciting, I'm studying Mechanical Engineering at uni. Work at McDonalds in my spare time.
I was given this Polo by my gran to learn to drive in, and then to keep when I passed. My first project, and I still have it.
It's been converted to run on bike carbs, but still has the crap 1980's mechanical advance. I want rid to something I can program, because I'm good at that. Kinda.
So, lets see her.
Model: Polo 6n2
Engine: 1.0 8v
Suspension: FK AK Coilovers
Brakes: GTi's. Soon to be 280's when I buy new pads and disks.
Wheels and Tyres: Lupo GTi Bathurst's. Yoko's.
Exterior Styling: GTi Splitter.
Interior Styling: Electric windows, cup holder, MK4 Golf Recaro's.
ICE and Security: Alpine Headunit, 400W RMS JBL amp, Rainbows, 8" JL sub.
My little Polo has done me really well. The obviously temp sensor and pedal box went. Rather than replacing the box, I got my trusty welder out and bodged it back together. It's held for another 8 months now, touch wood! I got her off my gran when I was 17, and it only had 17k on her. 2 years on, I've done 52k. :/ That's quite a lot of miles.
So, first year; she looked like this:
Then, I managed to hit a fence trying to learn how to handbrake turn! I blame my dad, he told me to get experience..
And repaired:
Poor little Polo!
So, while rebuilding, the car I found had electric windows. I wanted, so I fitted..
And fitted:
Easy.
Then came the GTi brakes. Red is boring, so went for something a little more vibrant behind the gunmetal wheels:
Pink! <3
Got the hubs powdercoated too:
And then fitted:
More snow came, this year, and the car turned into a snow plow:
Bought some Recaro's out of the MK4 Golf. No, they're not a straight swap, but they do fit. I didn't want to weld the seats, and since I'm not selling the car on, I just cut off the old bracket and welded on a new bracket.. Looked kinda like this..
And bolted together:
The only other problem I've had was my gearstick selector disintegrated.
Obviously cause of my rapid aggressive gear changes! :p
I just got her back from getting re-sprayed at the weekend! For 200 quid, I can't really complain. Now looks like this:
This is just the start! I've got my new AFH sitting in the garage; which is gonna go on carbs. Need to get the 280's sorted, then thinking about polybushing it.
Engine will probably go in next year, because insurance is a bit steep just now. I was thinking about the GTi, but it doesn't appeal, it can't be tuned as heavily, and isn't as fun!
Let me know your thoughts!
Adam-.

Hi Adam, welcome to the site! I de-n00bed you, despite your age :-)
If you sell this car with a FreeEMS under the dash, make sure you leave a note in the ECU explaining how to get help ;-)

Re: adam-'s 6n2 CBR600 Carb'd Polo
Today, I cleaned it, made myself an OEM Flipkey fit the Rclick stuff. Picked up some engine covers and tarted them a little; tweaked the timing by ear and it pulls lovely.
Got myself a new expansion bottle because the old one was letting the bay down a bit. Just need an AFR Gauge now..
It's clean:
Carbon Wrapped some shit because racecar:
Sorted the throttle cable because there was a notch and it was doing my box in:

So I picked up a set of xenons from my mate, was getting bored of a poor beam pattern from the eGay HID's.
They're still full of water after I cleaned them and their backs. Got some detailing done on the backs too so they're clean when they go in. Needed a bit of cutting on the slam panel to get them in though.
The same guy, a Mr Greg Lee also donated a set of mats from his Gee Tie, so that was lovely of him.
Got my AFR gauge fitted and started playing:
Cleaned up the bay with a battery cover and fuse box cover. VW wanted 68 quid for it. I pinched it off Greg.
After polishing up, she's pretty again:
Getting an R8 oil cap soon too.
With the gauge fitted, a little video:
Compulsary carb shot:

And that basically takes me up to date. People like pictures, so that gives a quick run down of the car.
Runs lovely on the carbs, starts on the button on the TCi module, but it sucks. Mechanical advance is pish.
Still need to source a board/money for one and then get stuck in.
Never programmed in these languages either.
Still a noob, really, so obviously I have questions. Feel daft asking the obvious:
Where can I get a board in the UK?
Does it support a 60-2 crank sensor?
Any other sensors for JUST IGNITION?
I don't think it would be that hard, and I'm quite happy to get stuck in, just never done anything like this before.
Carbs already have TPS and the ring is installed, I don't think there's anything else really..

Cool stuff :-)
To get a board: look in the FreeEMS Hardware section.
60-2 support: yes, but not very good right now. Will fix soon.
RPM and TPS or MAP are enough for ignition only.
The more sensors you can log the better placed you'll be to tune it from the logs.
Fred.

Re: adam-'s 6n2 CBR600 Carb'd Polo [56k/3G Die...]
I have potential for MAP.
I have a LC-1, so have wideband, although it's not needed.
Wanted to stay OEM if I could, didn't fancy mounting up a 36-1 ring. Everyone can do that, right?! I wanna try something new.
Planning to stay with just ignition just now so I can get used to the code and board.
Have a quick read:

Have a quick read:
The triggerwheel is a 60-2 at the crank
So it looks like the code is there to decode, just needs tweaked a little. If you can get this to work, the VW community will love you forever.Once you get it running I'll fix the code to allow > 2k RPM.
Re: adam-'s 6n2 CBR600 Carb'd Polo [56k/3G Die...]
And BMW, let's not forget them. Yeah, it just needs to be optimised. It's quite far up my list, so should happen sooner than various other things.

It was my understanding that the RavAGE hasn't been released yet, and that was where the project was heading?
Have you got a rough date for completion, or an alternative board? I've got no past experience with using developed boards or sending them to get made, or getting the main chip soldered on.
So yeah, total noob at that. Can do engine swaps and small scale soldering jobs, just not that small scale.

Next spin of jag or first cut of ravage will both work fine for you. Patience! :-)
