1992 Mazda Miata

Post by Hentai »

Started out as a stock Mazda miata 1.6l
bought it used off my brother's friend with the motor having a broken oil pump.
Swapped to another 1.6 engine.
Later on a roll bar was added.
custom turbo setup
went though many reversions on my intercooler piping and intercoolers.
orginally used a RRFPR for fuel, then I went to a megasquirt 2 running ms2extra.

ms2 started as speed density
Now I run it with a MAF sensor for fuel and spark.

I've learned many things about megasquirt. I've also learned many things about tuning since the start of this project.

megasquirt is absolute crap. ( vent )
its not terrible terrible crap, it works, just a bunch of features that aren't supported well and its a non open source project despite what everyone thinks about it.

I'm looking at find a replacement
Couple ones I've check and have on my mind are
Evo 8 ecu
Vipec V44
AEM EMS4

whichever it is I want error codes and limp home strageties if possible and MAF based fuel and spark control
Personally I perfer if I could stop at a autozone or advance and get them to read the ecu with a normal obd2 scanner if any issues pop up. I think that would be the ultimate for a road car in terms or error outputs.

The turbo is a T3 60 trim off a old 300zx or 280zx turbo motor.
Oil cooled only, journal bearing.
still in good working condition, its a good candiate to run a throttle body infront of it.
exhaust is 2.5" with a flowtech warlock muffler
internal waste gate.

in the end if I get a newer car later on or another car for daily driving.
I would like to turn it into more of a SSM monster car for SCCA solo

with 48 to 52 front to rear weight distrubution
move the engine further back or change it out to a completely different one
turbo be rear mounted, with a supercharger up front for low rpm power
keep power output linear
big tires, flared fenders.
Pedal set inside, race seats, gutted and stripped down
front and rear wings, front splitter, aero work done up underneath. rear diffuser.
try to hit under 2200 lbs
make over 400-500 wtq

this car is basically a car I use to understand issues, be it something I created or something that I didn't create problem wise.

Well stated. That's the best attitude towards gaining hands-on experience, IMO.

I added water injection before I had left to basic training. Pre turbo, comes on at .7bar. Doing around .9 bar I was getting 15F+ above ambient in one log I checked near the end of the run.
