one wish i have is for closed loop boost / traction control .
i.e. reads vss, then changes boost level if slip is detected.

i would love that, but would also settle for wheel speed based boost control.

I'd prefer boost level on a gear by gear basis. All are achievable, though, with the right code. Just a matter of time. I'll move these three posts to the firmware wishlist thread when I get a chance, too.

Gear dependent is certainly what you see the most of - and I want a lot more boost at 40 mph in 4th than I do in second! I've seen cars with less boost in the midrange (factory), though supposedly that was for the transmission's sake. Still, it's hard to see how RPM and gear selection wouldn't be enough.

Doing traction control, I dunno, it seems like it would be REALLY hard to ramp boost around that fast and that precisely. Have you ever heard of it being done? I always assumed traction control is done with spark/timing.

Oh, you're right, that's not so much of a hardware issue. I suppose my hardware request is flow meters in each runner.

Boost vs RPM map for each gear (or range of gears) would be my ideal solution... to my knowledge, even the best standalone boost controllers offer either gear based or RPM based boost map, but not both. It really would look nice on the feature set

My current box cuts fuel if it detects engine RPM increasing faster than set threshold. It's a pretty weak method for traction control, but it's better than nothing, I guess. Boost control seems way too slow, but throttle flap control via FBW throttle would do the trick.

It would be a high time for me to get back into DIYEFI/FreeEMS development loop, and learn some more KiCAD.

Cutting fuel? I would feel much safer with a spark cut, plus you might get some sweet flames too.

You just leave it as a choice - the important thing is to cut something which is cycle by cycle and not try to precisely adjust the big volume knob which is boost.

how about traction control from comparing Accelerometer vs VSS ? or hell, even accelerometer VS RPM could potentially reveal wheelspin.

i still think traction control based mostly on front / rear wheel speed sensors would be best. Could also easily be adapted to bikes, and most any car. Only variable needed would be front wheel diameter and rear wheel diameter. Base % slip on that.

probably mentioned already but a non SMD board, with easier to solder components.
