Getting The Hardware comments

Post by jharvey »

Thought the comment thing would be a good idea.

I was thinking this should perhaps be a wiki instead of a locked thread. It would allows others to update it, history on updates, ect. In the long run I think this thread will also be quite helpful as a general project BOM.

Is this a comments thread for your pcb/schem thread(s)? If so, can we name them to match?

Just let me know what to do, if anything.

The "Getting The Hardware" thread is locked, so I couldn't post or update. As an alternative, I started this comment thread about it. Following a thread structure similar to the diary threads.

Ahh, right, that thread is short/medium term and a close friend to the bench testing thread ;-)

It isn't meant to contain stacks of information, just get the ta card from ta and ask for this connector option etc.

There is no harm to this thread though I guess :-)

Utterly failed at finding the thread to post board pics, c'est la vie. It was worth getting drunk to take them, anyway.

Anyway, got the board, going to bypass the regulator as Fred suggested, but don't like the idea - certainly not yet at any rate. Found this:
http://www.st.com/stonline/products/lit ... /l4941.pdf

For, um, $1.40 from digikey, you can get a nice regulator, supplies 1,000 mA, accepts 5.5-14V no problem (30 is the rated max) so you could power all this off anything, it'll plug right in the same hole on the board, and basically is all around cool.

I'm pretty sure it'll fit on the top of the board, even with a heat sink. Worst case I could move the tallest cap, and have room to lay it down, even with some heat sink.

Am I crazy?
