I only put LC-1s on my cars. When I FreeEMS something, it will have an LC-1 unless overwhelming evidence points toward a better solution.

Ignorant questions -

Do you use a wideband O2 sensor to modify engine operation real-time, or is it for lookin at / tuning purposes?

If used as an input to the engine control stategy, should a Bosch CJ125 (http://www1.futureelectronics.com/doc/B ... 240104.pdf - good luck trying to find a real datasheet for this part), or some third party controller, be part of any FreeEMS hardware design?

Thanks,
Huff

There are a few things wrong about LC1s (and cousins) and some awesome things about them, too. I have one, and don't regret it at all, however I'm not sure I'd get another. Back when it was popularised it was a clear best choice, not true anymore, there are other good brands too. Most of which don't give errors on perfectly good sensors as LC1s definitely do.

This thread is full of flames and horror and bullshit, but there are some good facts in it too, if you wade through the rest: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1033

Huff, I don't believe in wideband inside the ECU. That doesn't mean that others don't, though, and they may integrate into their hardware designs. So might I, but I'd use one of Alan's products if I could, they're high performance and just excellent value.

Typical use is tuning time, and keeping an eye on boosted engines. On an NA engine I'd just use it for tuning, but on boosted you wanna keep an eye on that AFR. Closed loop can be done, but that pretty much says "my tune is shit, so I'm compensating for my poor skill" ;-)

if I just need a wideband to go into the ems I'm gonna go with 14point7's new spartan wideband unit.

Any updates/recommendations?
I'm interested of Bosch LSU 4.9 controller solutions.
14point7 Spartan2 controller is looking promising on "paper", price is nice but website looks kind of dead for me.
LC-1 new version LC-2 is still using LSU 4.2.

Thoughts?

I use an NTK AFX and it is so freaking stable it's not funny. I'd also use any 14point7 product.

and wow holy necro... but relevant :D

I only care to recommend NGK AFX type units for use under the 1k mark

Cross referencing, here's the thread you need: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2267

I'm going to lock this one now, as it's well dead, really.
