Board Usage Statistics

Post by Fred »

IE, where did they all end up? At least 23 running engines so far, half DIY, half boards, mostly Jaguars.

I'm hoping to document what proportion of people who buy a board end up using it on an engine. I guess we'll need a few classes of what happened. I'll do one post per spin of boards and a comments thread for feedback on how to categorise and/or increase success rates. This doesn't include DIY builds or TA purchases or other hand built one-off prototypes. Only batches spread around.

Categories
  • Taken to examine, not use.
  • Taken to use, never built.
  • Taken to use, built by user, never ran.
  • Taken to use, built by provider, never used.
List Of Hardware Spins
  1. 37 * Infamous Puma Spin 1 (first and last Puma board)
  2. 5 * Jaguar A3 (first bulk produced Jaguar)
  3. 5 * Jaguar A3.1 (KennyBug batch of Jaguars)
  4. 11 * Jaguar 0.4-alpha (first Jaguar with good ignition hw)
  5. 7 * PowerEFI F16 V1 (closed source secret squirrel project)
  6. 10 * Jaguar 0.6-alpha (first near-flawless FreeEMS board)
  7. 5 * OnionBoard V1 (companion board for CPU dev board)
  8. ? PowerEFI F16 V2, not included yet. (closed source secret squirrel project)
  9. 5 * Jaguar 0.6-alpha (Impregacy batch of Jaguars)
  10. 5?or? ruzki ms-compatible boards, not included yet. (December 19th ordered)
  11. 50 or 51? Jaguar 0.7-alpha, not included yet.

Puma Spin 1 Usage Statistics

Post by Fred »

A whopping and optimistic 37 boards made it out into the wide world

1 Marcos ran his car for 5 minutes on top of a hill at idle.
1 I thrashed and eventually blew up my truck for a couple of weeks. (no fault of Puma or FreeEMS, my fault) Then moved it to the Hotel Hyundai. It now lives on my desk for testing.
1 Preston ran the mighty 4AGE from one

Preston built a few more, including mops' one.
Johntramp built one and never quite got it working.
Craig built one and never quite got it working.

5 went to San Diego in the care of Abe and never came back.
5-10 stayed in Argentina never to be seen again.
1 went to Joseph Davis and collected dust.
1 went to gimpy in the US and is dusty by now.

etc, more here: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=983

Final score: 3/37

Jaguar A3 Usage Statistics

Lessons learned, a modest 5 boards made it out into the wide world. Additionally KennyBug had some made.

Andy ran his deuce on one.
I ran secret unlucky 13 on one.
Mike ran his 1987 383 V8 on one.
Hentai ran his Miata on one. Soon to run a different Miata!
Jeff ran his Tacoma on one.

All 5 ran.

Great work, Andy and everyone with an A3! :-)

KennyBug quietly produced another 5 boards out of Git without telling anyone:

KennyBug has 3 of his own spin of A3.1 or similar.
Mike has a blank KennyBug version, unused, likely won't be.
Dan has one KennyBug version, built for bench, won't run.

More info: viewtopic.php?f=67&t=1599

KennyBug's hit rate 0/5

Lesson: Don't go out on your own on things. Keep in touch with the core devs.

In a dark dusty corner, Sean secretly had 7 V1 F16 boards printed

Sean is running his R1 with one.
Sean briefly ran his LT1 with one that didn't work properly.

2 ran.

Abe had a fully built one collecting dust and making me and Sean both mad. (a team!) But then returned it to Sean, who is now modifying it to go on his Camaro!

5 blanks remain with Sean AFAIK. 1 reserved for me.
