Puma Owners Usage Details

Post by Fred »

Hello everyone that just ordered a Puma board and are planning to run FreeEMS on it (or not)!

Sean and I need to know *exactly* what your setups consist of so we can focus our work to the benefit of the most people the soonest. Please post once (only) in this thread for each PCB/vehicle combo you plan to run. For example, if you ordered two boards and one is going on your wall as a souvenir and the other into your 1967 mustang, then one post will be short describing your wall, and the other will layout the details of your vehicle by quoting an earlier poster and using it as a template. If you have one board, and plan to trial it on more than one vehicle, perhaps daily and project car (that doesn't need one full time) then post twice, once for each. If you've got one for the hell of it, and aren't sure what it's going on just yet, post so. You can always edit your posts later, the main thing is to get a complete picture of what is happening with these cards and what code is required to make that happen. If you didn't order a card, do NOT post! Marcos, I want 4 or 5 posts from you for your 4 or 5 boards! Ditto you Abe! Everyone else has an easier job ;-)

I'll post my own setup as an example now. Please follow suit. If you don't post, I will dog you until you do :-)

All setups will require a basic compliment of analogue sensors. IAT/MAT/both (Inlet/Manifold Air Temperature) and CHT (Coolant/Head Temperature) and preferably a TPS

Replace any of the above that yes/no isn't suitable for with N/A if Not Applicable! Don't remove lines.

Induction style: OEM Single throttle
Strokes: 4

Fuel setup

Injection control: Yes
Injector config: port
Injector count: 4
Injector flow: 550 cc/min

Ignition Setup

Ignition control: Yes
Style: Wasted Spark - COP (bank fired)
Config: normal

Power adders

Nitrous: No
Boost type and level: turbo X 15-ish psi
Boost control desired: Yes!

Accessories

Idle control: 2 pin PWM (+fast idle solenoid if needed)
aircon input: "yes" (Big Fucking Stereo)
knock sensing: yes!!! (OEM sensor if possible, KnockSense output if not
pwm fuel pump: no (why?)
anything else: Would like more outputs!

Sensors

Cam and crank wheel style: Crappy OEM VR-translated-in-sensor to open collector
Cam pattern: 1 pulse odd cyl, doublett even cyl. Details available elsewhere

Variable Valve Timing: No
Air measurement: TPS,MAP with baro (if we can use it For Good)
Wideband: Yes - 0-5V, scalable (LC-1)

Misc Notes

No VVT on this one. The cam/crank sensors are a bit weird, but otherwise it's pretty plain-jane. Not sure if the knock circuit will work with this one.
Would love to read/log/react to low oil temps as well as water.
1200 watt amp in combination with fans and hvac system occasionally puts large load on engine, unexpectedly. Great test for idle code.
"Junk" motor I'm ready to see out.
Nothing/Anything unique or weird or special about your setup that we even so much as MIGHT need to know about.

(Yes, the same car, but a new motor after some bugs are worked out)
General

Make: mazda
Model: miata
Engine Code: bp6something?
Displacement: 1.85 (overbore)
Cylinder count: 4
Cylinder config: I4
Compression level: 8.2:1
Induction style: OEM Single throttle
Strokes: 4

Fuel setup

Injection control: Yes
Injector config: port (MIGHT add secondary rail back in)
Injector count: 4 (8)
Injector flow: 550 cc/min (~250 (OEM) + 550/750, possibly two tank high octane setup)

Ignition Setup

Ignition control: Yes
Style: COP
Config: normal

Power adders

Nitrous: No
Boost type and level: turbo X 20-25 psi
Boost control desired: Yes, TPS dependant

Accessories

Idle control: 2 pin PWM (+fast idle solenoid if needed)
aircon input: "yes" (Big Fucking Stereo)
knock sensing: yes!!! (OEM sensor if possible, KnockSense output if not)
pwm fuel pump: no, possibly two channel?
anything else: Would like more outputs!

Sensors

Cam and crank wheel style: Crappy OEM VR-translated-in-sensor to open collector - IF needed, ~16+ tooth crank wheel
Cam pattern: 1 pulse odd cyl, doublett even cyl. Details available elsewhere
Crank pattern: 4 unevenly spaced
Variable Valve Timing: YES
Air measurement: TPS,MAP with baro (if we can use it For Good).Someday dream of 1 MAF/cyl
Wideband: Yes - 0-5V, scalable (LC-1)

Misc Notes

Biggie ported VVT on this one, higher revs. The cam/crank sensors are a bit weird, perhaps a solid crank sensor (start in bank fire for quick starts), keep OEM cam sensor? Would really like VVT support!
Not sure if the knock circuit will work with this one.
Would love to read/log/react to low oil temps as well as water.

General

Make: Kawasaki
Model: KZ-1000 (1977)
Engine Code: ????
Displacement: ~1200? 1100?
Cylinder count: 4
Cylinder config: I4
Compression level: 7.x:1
Induction style: Single throttle? Undecided
Strokes: 4

Fuel setup

Injection control: Yes
Injector config: undecided. Perhaps TPI?
Injector count: 4-or-less
Injector flow: total ~ 1500-2000 cc/min unless I run alch (~250 whp)

Ignition Setup

Ignition control: Yes
Style: Wasted Spark - COP or aftermarket coils (bank fired)
Config: normal

Power adders

Nitrous: No
Boost type and level: turbo X 15-ish psi current. ~20?
Boost control desired: Per gear is nice on bikes. Not sure I care.

Accessories

Idle control: fast idle solenoid if needed
aircon input: no
knock sensing: yes!!! Open to sensor make/model (though have spare Mazda units)
pwm fuel pump: no (why?)
anything else: Just needs to run. :-)

Sensors
Totally undecided here. I've got nothing. There's a crank tap. I can fab a 36-1 setup, or a hall set up really easy, used to have a powercommander style one till I put it on a mini for a race.

Cam and crank wheel style: undecided. Possibly crank only.
Cam pattern: undecided.
Crank pattern: undecided (none?)
Variable Valve Timing: No
Air measurement: likely MAP, easier. Could get a MAF?
Wideband: Yes - 0-5V, scalable (LC-1). No closed loop.

Misc Notes

This was a bike I'd run carburetter (and blew a few motors) while in my first years of college. Took it apart for a new carb and never finished it. Would like to see it running. Forged pistons, cent. assist clutch, but basically stock. I've had ignition on it (never got timing retard working on it. Go figure it blew up). The goal is to make it reliable and a simple 175+ whp. Not looking to win any records, just want to have it running. The alternative is to put the MS2 I will be exercising from the Mazda on here.

General

Make: Suzuki
Model: TL1000R
Engine Code: ????
Displacement: 998? 996?
Cylinder count: 3
Cylinder config: 90* twin
Compression level: 9-10?:1
Induction style: OEM dual throttle
Strokes: 4

Fuel setup

Injection control: Yes
Injector config: port
Injector count: 4 I think
Injector flow: unknown cc/min. Might be symmetric.

Ignition Setup

Ignition control: Yes
Style: two coils?
Config: normal

Power adders

Nitrous: No
Boost type and level: Really would only do this to turbo it. Would start NA though.
Boost control desired: Yes, gear (+tps) dependent

Accessories

Idle control: I don't think so. Would love to add fast idle, perhaps with advance?
aircon input: no
knock sensing: Desired. Forget if OEM has one. Think not.
pwm fuel pump: no (why?)
anything else: meh

Sensors

Cam and crank wheel style: OEM crank + cam
Cam pattern: don't remember
Crank pattern: don't remember
Variable Valve Timing: No*, does have a compression release setup OEM
Air measurement: TPS, MAFx2
Wideband: Yes - but no closed loop. Didn't have it OEM.

Misc Notes

This would be a fun little bike to just mess with. Needs some FI love. V-twin has great feel, only imagine it'd be better with a turbo. Might very well become the best sound in the world.

No intended vehicle yet, thinking about going to EFI in the Scimitar (3ltr ford Essex v6) but need to get the car finished first, unless i have a play with the spare engine I have in the garage :D
