From the diary thread:
Fred wrote:memory and CPU usage and rendering speed/efficiency. Currently OLV is pretty broken in that respect, and also in terms of component coupling
If you'd just release 0.0.3 already, I would start working on 0.0.4 (performance release) which at least partially addresses at least 4 of your 5 concerns. I/we could also work on the 5th no problem. I think there are serious plans to decouple things for the 0.0.5 (GUI overhaul release).

Some extra OLV work popped up at the last minute.

I couldn't help but chuckle at what was listed under the first category "need to avoid paralysis". You are your own worst enemy :p (aren't we all). I think they drew a black and white picture, when the design importance often depends on how it affects other devs. IE guys writing apps that work with a coms spec vs some internal function.

There's a difference between stalled/paralysis and quite behind-the-scenes boring progress. The latter is right now. The former was when I returned to NZ from the UK and just had to relax for a while.

So what's this new app you're working on? It must be super important to be taking time away from the firmware and releasing OLV 0.0.3 and all the others things in need of work. I can't wait to see it! (Assuming it is for public consumption.)

All in good time, Ben, all in good time. It is super important, yes, second only to some key fw issues, and actually, blocking many other fw issues. I'll tell you what, just to make you feel special, I'll get on the phone and break the news to you verbally, as soon as it's ready to be broken, that is. I can't wait to show it to you, either :-) Mutual man-love!

Nope, not yet, sorry. I promised Ben a phone call in a previous post. I'll stand by my word. Even if some people (most of them...) do not.

One more GIF out of you, and I'll hack the PHP like this:

Code: Select all

if (username == masterkorp && imageLink.toLowerCase().endsWith(".gif")) { imageLink = singlePixelTransparentImageLink;}
