Andy's GM DIS centric hardware design! Also works as a fuel controller for EDIS and distributor applications.

usb socket installation

Post by pishta »

That usb socket is a bugger to solder the pins as they are located almost under the physical socket. My recommendation is to flux and lightly tin the pin pads so there is just a hint of a solder dome, flux pins and then solder the 4 through hole anchors from the back, flow the holes with solder. Now you should be able to use your smallest cone tip and the hottest setting to just touch the individual pins so the pad solder flows up it. Check for bridges and use solder wick to soak up bridges.

I use solder paste for the USB connector and the other SMD components. If you dome the solder up on the pads the connector may not sit flush with the other pads that are used to stabilize the connector.

It's tricky, but with a fine tip you can solder those pins properly. I've done a few of the now.

ST mosfet in stock now

Post by pishta »

Builders,
The obsolete/unstocked/unobtainable/backordered/15 week leadtime ST VND7NV04 mosfet is now in stock at Mouser.com for a very good price of 1.70/pc with no cut reel charge. Their max9926 was also in the ballpark but no longer as cheap as originally called out.

You're still doing this, pishta? Good on ya! :-) Some other people who ordered Jaguars have copped out. Wankers.

Man, It has almost taken me this long to find these mosfets! I kept looking and no one outside China had them stocked, like a free world B/O. Was about to use a BUK109GL but that bugger was OOS too. So all i'm chasing now is the enclosure and Ill get it from the published source. Hey, if all goes to hell, I still got a virgin MS-2 I can plug in......

No idea why you were struggling so much, there are dozens of mosfets that fit those pads and would work fine.

Now you F'n tell me! :-) :-) :-) I remember you telling me that over lunch but I dont know what Andy built in for resistance, switching speed, clamping voltage, etc. Just trying to keep it 'stock' so when I ask for advice, we are all on the same page hardware wise. No big deal.

I believe I posted about it way back when you first started making erroneous noise, too, but whatever. As long as you have something that works! :-)
