Jaguar 0.4-alpha PCB Status (was Jaguar A4 PCB Status)

Andy's GM DIS centric hardware design! Also works as a fuel controller for EDIS and distributor applications.

Why do I get an impression that this A4 design progress has hit a wall for some reason? No update for so long. I was kind-a hoping to be able to order a board or 2 at some point this year. My hands are itching to get to the v6 PSA Renault unit sitting in my garage. If i get it running half descent i would love to make recovery truck with it in and LPG it during winter.

Nope, Andy's been hard at work making the required changes and testing hardware and tuning his car and fixing his other cars! No rest for the wicked :-)

Maybe he should post an update, though ;-)

Progress on A4 has slowed, but not stalled.

We learned from seank that he had success with a digital isolator IC from Analog Devices (the ADUM1201/ADUM3201, which I have ordered and received engineering samples of both for testing) and that Texas Instruments/Dallas Semiconductor has an pin-out equivalent IC (the ISO7421ED, which I have also ordered and received engineering samples for testing) to go between the MCU and the FTDI USB UART to provide electrical noise isolation in case someone uses an inverter to power their laptop while tuning.

In other news, the A3 version is running my GM 3100 3.1L v6 quite nicely, so the design is valid, I'm just waiting to run a few more tests with the new components to ensure that they meet our requirements before I make any further changes.

Stay "tuned"...

Hey mate. Have you done any testing with the isolator ics yet? I would really love to hear about it and see your results?

I have tested the ADUM1201WTRZ digital isolator and have included the Saleae Logic trace of both RX and TX from both the MCU and from the FTDI chip.
From the trace you will see there are no timing issues between the inputs and the outputs.

Looking forward to more testing of the variants :-) Also to finding time to download and look at the la traces.

Traces downloaded. Just need the app to open them now lol
I am glad you are getting similar results to what i have/am though. So i assume you are getting good comms when you run emstudio as well ? Or have you not gotten that far yet?
Nice work DeuceEFI!

I have EMStudio communicating to the MCU through the ADUM1201 wonderfully, I have had it running for the last 48 hours without any issues :-)

Next up is to test the Texas Instruments/Dallas Semiconductor ISO7421ED which is supposed to be a drop in pin for pin replacement for the Analog Devices ADUMx201 series.
