Because I define poor, my build will be a little different.
For a start my build will only contain CPU, comms and the firmware load jumper parts. I'll be feeding the board 5V from an external supply to get it up and running ASAP. I'll not be using an FTDI chip as I don't have one and they are extortionists. Instead I will be using another chip which I'll be evaluating in the process. I don't have the correct TH mini USB or any big USB socket/cable, so I've already modified an SMD mini USB socket to fit in the TH position correctly.
This minimal configuration will allow me to get on with creating a better SM: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1232
Loving the outlined sub-circuits.
Considering there are already three other essential fine pitch ICs, why not save some space with the XOR being one too?
If we can't adequately solve the max square wave latency issue, I'm guessing a move to a schmidtt trigger IC for input would better suit the intended purpose of the board. If not migrate, then perhaps in parallel and only populate one circuit much like early DFH designs had.
Note for me, ground link info here: viewtopic.php?p=25650#p25650
I've taken a few pics of what Andy did for me, and serial number, and the usb connector. I'll put them in the next post. Comments welcome after that post.

Actually it was more a "Jeff's" Treasure box, I only contributed the signed, limited edition Jaguar PCB...Kennybug wrote:Cool... Andy's Treasure box.

Yes, it had quite a few things in it, as does the other box which I have to wait until tomorrow to get. :-(

CPU and USB mini are soldered on now! Need to buy more parts to go much further, though I am assembling a solid game plan for getting it usable. Pics to follow!

Re: Fred's A3S5 Rangi/Ghetto/Hokey/Maori Jaguar Build
OK, got quite a lot done, am now waiting for tomorrow to come so I can buy a few more parts and start using it :-)
Got the USB connector attached:
Fixed the wrong trace on the USB connector:
Bridged the ground and TX/RX pins over the opto locations:
Did some hacking to achieve a few things. Repurposed the USB tx/rx LEDs for:
How the TA BDM hooks up correctly:
How it currently looks:
Most of the caps are on, missing a few, but not many. Tants are absent, crystal loads are absent, at least one 0.22uF is absent. Have a few resistors and a few headers in place. Have 2 LEDs in place.
More to come!

Re: Fred's A3S5 Rangi/Ghetto/Hokey/Maori Jaguar Build
This now has enough parts to take code from a BDM. Next is to add comms to the board and talk to the SM. Then it's time to get stuck in and dev a better SM.

Re: Fred's A3S5 Rangi/Ghetto/Hokey/Maori Jaguar Build
Got the serial chip butchered in, but it's not working correctly. I'm not sure if it's a driver issue, an os issue, a hardware issue, a power supply issue, a chipset issue or what. Not too sure how to proceed either.
Current symptoms are:
Data sent to the jag never comes out of the usb/uart chip.
Data streamed from the jag looks good, but is intermittent, as is the device itself.
I might put a 7805 reg on the cpu supply and unbridge the usb power setup and add a cap to the usb/uart chip and see if it improves.
Or maybe I should do some research on the device first.
Have to wait till Monday to get tech support for it.
I could also put another identical chip on a break out board with a cleaner set of traces and hook that up and see if it helps.
More news, and pics, as they come to hand.
Fred.

Re: Fred's A3S5 Rangi/Ghetto/Hokey/Maori Jaguar Build
Plugging it directly into the computer instead of through a hub solved the intermittent data issue, most of the time. Sending to the MCU is still no go, though. The RX stuff seems like a buffer size and/or driver issue in my 3.2.0.1 kernel.
Still didn't try winblows or mac but will likely try winblows tomorrow. Will also contact the manufacturer asking for advice.
