MC9S12XDP512 board

I found this board that has the MC9S12XDP512 on it
It is a bit nicer priced than the TA board and shipping is a bit more friendly
96 euro is a little better than 200 Dollar i think
I am a newbe in electronics so there is a big change that i am wrong but this board seems to be a good start for a DIY freeEMS build
What do you think of the board?(german version of the site has the price)

It should be fine, however as I mentioned to you earlier, you either have to hack the firmware to work with the 4k monitor scheme, and I won't help with this, or get a BDM to change the SM to a standard 2k version. Then it will work with un-hacked firmware :-)

In two weeks the first board and a Chinees Freescale BDM should be here
Now i have to think of the rest of the parts i need to make a motorcycle ECU
I not going to use a cam sensor (yet),so two ignition channels and two injector channels should do the trick for now
I am working on a "BOM" and some schematics for my use but it is not ready yet
If i have some more news i wil post it some where

My board should be here in two weeks

For the rest of the board/ECU i want to build my first board whit through hole components (if i can find them) and use the Ravage schematics
I have to build 2 5 volt power-supplies: 1 for the CPU and 1 for the sensors and stuff
(i have a few 7805's but i don't know if i can use them for this power-supply?)
For the through hole CPU power regulator i found the VNP20N07
On the 12 volt side: 1 10uF and 1 0.1uF compacitor
And on the 5 volt side: 1 22uF and 1 47uF compacitor
This should give me a good 5 volts for the CPU?

For the sensor power-supply a lm2941ct regulator
On the 12 volt side:1 470nF compacitor and a 33K resistor and a connection to the CPU (pin PA5)
On the 5 volt side :29K4 and 10K resistors and a 22uF capacitor

Is this okay or am i way wrong?
Do i need a "wake up" circuit and if so what is the through hole component?

No, if you're DIYing, don't bother with a wake up circuit. Two regulators is still a good plan. I would recommend getting LM2940 and/or lm2937 LDO 5v regulators. I you use the 7805 stuff then there are some possible issues:
  • They can fail with surges on the input and potentially kill your CPU
  • They drop 2v or so and could prevent you from starting on cold mornings with a weak battery
Other than that, they can work, though I don't recommend it.

VNP20N07 is not a regulator, it's a fully protected MOSFET perfect for driving solenoids, relays and high Z injectors.

As far as caps go, 35V 10-47uF on the 12v side and 10-25V 10-47uF on the output side. Also run a diode across the reg to prevent it being reverse biased at shut down time.

Additionally, you can use just one regulator if you want. If you're not going to do SD logging or use an RTC and fancy hot start logic, then one is fine. Millions of MegaPoos are rolling around with a single LM2940 driving everything just fine.

Just got an email that my board is on its way by mail,should be here by the beginning of next week
I have to hurry whit ordering components now
Found most parts i have to order on ebay btw

The postman woke me up this morning and he had a MC9S12XDP512 board in his hands
I cant do any thing whit it now,first i have to build a 5 volt power supply,get me a male-male rs232 connector and i have wait till the BDM is here
Boards looks good and every thing that should be there is there (i think ;-) )
Is there any software i have to get on my comp to programme it?
How do i get the freeEMS software on to the board?
What programme are u using Fred to programme the 12xDP512?
