OK, that's good news for my ute, which has a similar setup with an
18"x4" "coby" at the front, and a similar oval straight through another
meter further on. I plan to loop it back and through another larger
muffler, which would make my ute setup be similar to yours, but
shorter. Currently without the third muffler it's mild, but a bit too
noisy for my liking in quiet suburbia. Ute:

I guess what I can take from this is that 2.5" with three mufflers
should be adequately quiet and still meet my power needs. I'll do
something similar to yours/the ute on the 740 with 3" for the larger
power goals there.

As an aside, I have been applying verniers to various exhausts in
order to evaluate what I should run on the blacktop 4age in the
Starlet, and one exhaust I have here is a Millenia 200ps 2.5l V6
exhaust at 53.84mm OD. Could that V6 put out a bit more with a
more free flowing setup? sure, but a fraction over 2" supports
200hp just fine without any boost assistance :-) B234F is 2", as
is stock blacktop exhaust @ 165ps.

Enough spam! Thanks for the detailed response :-)

Hey Sim, Thank you for the detailed build thread.

Any updates? It seemed to end abruptly, on the third re-build of the EFI boards...

Being a volvo redblock lover, I can't help but think that some day I'm going to need to replace my EFI, and being a poor engineer, this is the way I'd have to go.

I would love to see complete docs of your final build; wiring diagrams, photos, part numbers, and your EFI tables for redblock enthusiasts.... of course, that's asking a lot, so a final update would be great! :)

Thanks!

Sim hasn't been around much for a while, so I'll step in and attempt
to answer on his behalf, as one of his biggest fans and someone who
keeps a close eye on what he gets up to, where I can:

1) Car still has weak M47 transmission
2) B230FT setup made enough torque to slip clutch (Sim seemed very happy with the output level and less motivated to 16v it)
3) Clutch got upgraded to a stronger one
4) T5 trans build in progress/M47 getting noisier
5) Car was damaged by another motorist :-(
6) Insurance deal was cut to repair it
7) Repairs began but no final update on those

Given how much Sim loves this car, I suspect the repairs have been
carried out and completed and he's out and about enjoying the car
again. On the other hand, it's winter there, and if it were mine, it'd
stay in dry storage away from slippery roads and incompetent
drivers during that period.

Re ending abruptly on the third rebuild, that's probably because he
was fairly happy with the latest revision and it didn't cause him too
much drama, I guess.

I think his build setup is fairly well documented, in terms of hardware
like coils, injectors, turbo, etc. The rest is just wiring it to the ECU,
configuring the ECU, and tuning it. To that end, the tune is definitely
available as a base tune should you have a similar setup. Keep in
mind that each engine is different, and a perfect tune for Sim's setup
will not be perfect for yours, nor my several :-)

I welcome Sim's corrections upon his return.

Hi Fred,

Thank you for the reply and update. Sorry to hear about Sim's trouble with other motorists... I hope the repairs have gone well.

If I ever have to attempt this (and, personally, I hope that I do not, only because I have a lot of other projects!) I'll have to document it fully. Sim's documentation is definitely a good starting place.

Are there any boards with the EFI chipset all pre soldered? I've heared mention of the Jaguar, what is that, and is it closer to a drop in, configure, and drive sort of set up?

Oops, never mind my questions above... not only do they go off topic, I spent some time reading and have a clearer picture. For anyone who happens to be wondering the same thing: Jaguar is a circuit board that supports FreeEMS, somewhat generic for a bunch of different types of cars.
