I feel directly targeted and somewhat offended by this. It certainly warrants a page with some analysis and explanation from another perspective. More work for next week...

Fred.

PS I cached the page just in case it changes in future.

That's great, I would agree that you / FreeEMS is targeted when they make reference to other unscrupulous EMS's. I also like how they reference an outdated document at the bottom of the page. The patent reform acts in following years resolved many issues like the one noted there. However, those same reform acts also opened the door that allowed MS to patent common knowledge as well. Not a huge deal, as prior art is easy to find and well documented, but annoying that the patent office makes MS think they can toss around these types of claims. On a good note, it appears they only have legal pull against anyone who builds these in the US.

I also found it interesting that they consider themselves the big boys, while claiming that no one has gotten filthy rich off MS. Would appear they have some ego issues. About the filthy rich part, I don't disagree that they haven't made as much money as a large auto manufacture. However, Bruce did tell me they have spent well over $50k on just filing their patents. Typically for a company to spend that much money protecting their IP, they have to take in at least $500k a year.

Eh what ever. I know many projects out there. I'm not aware of any that MS has legally pursued. So it's unlikely for them to decide to be an annoyance any how.

Jared, they will not bother me, software patents do not exist in NZ ;-)

Besides which, I doo not want any of their shoddy code in my project in the first place, yuck!!!
