amatt,

I can tell you which traces you will need to cut to convert your first generation CoolEFI Basic ECU so that you can then run jumper wires to the appropriate Port T (timer) outputs so that you can use FreeEMS.

You will need to decide if you are going to use Semi-Sequential Injection with Coil-On-Plug Ignition or Sequential Injection with Wasted Spark Ignition. I have outlined the modifications for both here:

Semi-Sequential Injection with Coil-On-Plug Ignition

Code: Select all

1. Cut the traces above R42, R43, R44 and R45. These are the ignitor drivers.
2. Run a jumper wire from the Port T block #2 to R45, this is ignitor #1 output.
3. Run a jumper wire from the Port T block #3 to R44, this is ignitor #2 output.
4. Run a jumper wire from the Port T block #4 to R43, this is ignitor #3 output.
5. Run a jumper wire from the Port T block #5 to R42, this is ignitor #4 output.
6. Cut the trace to the left of the bottom pad of R59 (closest to R61).
7. Run a jumper wire from the Port T block #6 to the bottom pad of R59 (closest to R61), this is Injector bank #1 output. This should be the first and third cylinder injectors in your firing order.
8. Cut the trace to the right of the bottom pad of R55 (closest to R57).
9. Run a jumper wire from the Port T block #7 to the bottom pad of R55 (closest to R57), this is Injector bank #2 output. This should be the second and fourth cylinder injectors in your firing order.
10. Wire your ignitors to the Ignitor #1 through #4 outputs.
11. Wire your injectors (in banks) to the Injector #1 (bank 1, the first and third cylinder injectors in your firing order) and Injector #2 (bank 2, the second and fourth cylinder injectors in your firing order.) outputs.
12. Configure FreeEMS and build firmware.
13. Load FreeEMS firmware onto the CoolEFI Basic ECU.
Sequential Injection with Wasted Spark Ignition

Code: Select all

1. Cut the traces above R44 and R45. These are the ignitor drivers.
2. Run a jumper wire from the Port T block #2 to R45, this is ignitor bank #1 output.
3. Run a jumper wire from the Port T block #3 to R44, this is ignitor bank #2 output.
4. Cut the trace to the left of the bottom pad of R59 (closest to R61).
5. Run a jumper wire from the Port T block #4 to the bottom pad of R59 (closest to R61), this is Injector #1 output.
6. Cut the trace to the right of the bottom pad of R55 (closest to R57).
7. Run a jumper wire from the Port T block #5 to the bottom pad of R55 (closest to R57), this is Injector #2 output.
8. Cut the trace to the left of the bottom pad of R58 (closest to R60).
9. Run a jumper wire from the Port T block #6 to the bottom pad of R58 (closest to R60), this is Injector #3 output.
10. Cut the trace to the right of the bottom pad of R54 (closest to R56).
11. Run a jumper wire from the Port T block #7 to the bottom pad of R54 (closest to R56), this is Injector #4 output.
12. Wire your ignitors to the Ignitor #1 and Ignitor #2 outputs. The Ignitor #1 output will be for the 1st and 3rd cylinder ignitors in your firing order and Ignitor #2 output will be for the 2nd and 4th cylinder ignitors in your firing order. (I don't recall what your firing order is on this engine.)
13. Wire your injectors to the Injector #1, #2 , #3 and #4 outputs.
14. Configure FreeEMS and build firmware.
15. Load FreeEMS firmware onto the CoolEFI Basic ECU.
FreeEMS will need to be configured for one of these configurations before loading the firmware onto your CoolEFI Basic ECU v0.1-alpha. You will then need to obtain the FreeEMS version of EMStudio in order to tune the system.

Hopefully this helps... 8-)

Thanks Andy. Cool.

Where should I get latest FreeEms firmware?

Is that here?

No, it's here. You get that when you demonstrate you're ready to rumble with a wired up realistic installation. What's your engine setup again? :-)

Ok. All those wire are on their way. Setup is Mitsu 4/2, sequence injection, batch ignition. Trigger offset 10deg.

Trigger offset? Sounds like something from another system. You'll have to dial in your offset with a timing light or precise mathematics.

4 cylinder, I presume? If so, should be a pretty easy setup.

I have been reading and digging in forum. What I understand is:-

-To build from source code I need to use http://tools.diyefi.org/FreeEMS_ToolCha ... 3-10.1.exe
Already install that, but how to use it? From my understanding, this will compile source code to s19.
http://github.com/djandruczyk/FreeEMS-w ... in-builder seem broken.

-Can I just load pre-compile from here? http://builds.freeems.org/firmware/master/images/
I see there got http://builds.freeems.org/firmware/mast ... nd2.s19.gz might suite my trigger.

-And.. Where is Emstudio (Freeems Version)??

Thanks.

No, those windows tools are way out of date and I think not compatible with latest source.

You may be able to use that image and get a running setup, but there are newer firmware versions available that I could build for you that will give you a better experience.

EMStudio, Linux only, limited availability, just a bunch of bug fixes and tweaks to suit latest firmware. EMStudio without the fixes is pretty buggy.

Yes. Please build the latest. I'm keen waiting. Currently I'm running with dual boot setup. Both are Win7 and Ubuntu 14.4.
If needed:
-engine 1800cc
-injector size 210cc

Thanks.
