Fred's 1983 KP60 Toyota Starlet! 39th!

Well, this afternoon we set about debugging why we failed on our mission to drive 1000km+ back from the South Island on a fresh install of FreeEMS. It turns out that you need to know what your coils are to wire them up correctly... so, now that the ignitors have been removed and the active coils hooked up correctly, we can happily say that the car ran on FreeEMS control! We dialed in the timing running the factory ignition and then shut it down, swapped the leads over, disabled the factory coil, and fired it right back up. Easiest most trouble-free first start ever! 39th is mine :-D

Many thanks to Dave for coils/leads, John for assistance, Rob for assistance and companionship, Ned for coil docs, Cam for engineering assistance and fixing the wiring to be correct, Wife for tolerating the fleet, etc.

Youtubes to come tomorrow after sorting out the lack of vacuum and dialing in the base timing more precisely and fixing a loose fastener on the engine front cover. For now, here's a grossly oversized photo to give the thread a little colour!

Cheers! Sorry I didn't wait till you were around to sort out the issues.

I'll call it a full success, and scrape FAIL off of the glass, when the vacuum source works and I can leave the can coil and dizzy in the garage ;-)

You're welcome re coming on the trip, was a good team effort. Let's hope that the exciting future ahead is in my hands and not some mongrel thief! :-D
