Using a circle track race radiator with a Mercedes w123 diesel oil cooler hung on the side to handle engine cooling. Perfectly fits the width of the Miata opening.

Neatly "stacked" four heat exchangers in the front of a smallish car. Similar to the first arrangement though this time I'm using a delta fin intercooler which should pass more air to the exchangers behind it. Installed the AIT sensor in the IC cold side end tank.

What the car looked like at this point. That's my daily driver in the background - a fine example of the most complicated mechanical fuel injection the Germans could make. It's itching for FreeEMS.

I picked up an AHP Alpha TIG because the price point was irresistible and just made sense for the amount of aluminum welding ahead. So I practiced some and then did my intercooler pipes.

Installed the intercooler pipes and fab'd up the under tray to seal up all the heat exchangers.

And this is the running/driving FreeEMS Jaguar A3 FE3 engine swapped turbocharged 1990 Miata. Did some wheel swapping and wound up with these. Not what I was looking for but they've grown on me.

Wow! Exquisitely documented, as always, with you! :-) Love some of the ideas and executions. And it still looks slow :-D Perfect.

Let me know when you've got it rough tuned and we'll sort you out some better newer more advanced firmware to make it run sweetly.

Merc looks great, too! Cough, users rides thread, please. Or a link to an existing one on some merc forum?

Cheers!

Everything is documented pre-first-FreeEMS-start too. I'll add that because it's pertinent. I did add a "complimentary" front lip bumper spoiler and deck lid spoiler to the Miata since those last photos. Will add a thread for the benz in user rides.

Enter the wayback machine- This is the second FE3/turbo'd Mx5 Miata I've built. The first one was more simple- engine position dictated by where the transmission bell housing mounting face sat. Everything fit nicely, worked well. I put about 5,000 miles on the car including a 900 mile road trip from Atlanta around Florida and back home. It made a little over 300whp and was fun and reliable.

Then this happened:

The car was totaled but still ran/drove. Proof:

My original plan was to pick up a cheap 90 Miata and just move the parts over. I did manage to do cheap- thanks to a very generous friend with a project Miata that had been under a tarp for more than a few years. But the plan to move all the go fast parts over turned into a "let's do it better this time around." I've enjoyed that approach- I've learned a tremendous amount.
