It has come to my attention that someone sneaky has run their engine many times and claims to not have stolen a placing. They claim that only starting and running for 1 or 2 seconds is not sufficient to claim a placing. I claim that they took 26th place, or maybe even 25th. So is a start a start, or must it idle and/or rev too?

Per your first post "runner" - would lead me to believe that idle/rev would be qualification criteria. If you said "starter," that'd be different.

It's a grey line, though, as it is running, the starter is disengaged and RPMs are rising and then steadyish, then it falls away again. Is it running for 1 second, 10, 100, 1000, where is the line? :-)

The volvo started and ran with throttle, but I didn't call it running. I called it running when it was stable. But the unlucky thirteen never ran very stably, only revving and high idle. Truth is, it's very unusual to see a car that will start and not do anything else! This is the first one AFAIK.

The log I saw showed 2 seconds from end of crank to dead, with the last 0.5 of that being a gradual death. The other 1.5 was pretty stable, if a bit lumpy. I promised to look at the config, so I'll do that now.

IMO it has to run under its own power, eg not held running by significant throttle fiddling, and not starting and immediatly dying. If the qualification was just turning over several revolutions not under cranking power, than my #14 would've been a #13, but I waited until it was able to stay running for more than a moment or two before calling it, and missed out on #13's spot :)

Olli is close with his 280z
Piimae is close with his turbo 4age
Mike is close with his protege

I thought there were a few more, but perhaps they've been sleeping/are still asleep

Piimae grabbed 28th place several days ago!

via has stolen 29th place over the weekend! We await his epic thread of claimedness.

Mike has diagnosed his protege with a fuel pump that turns off. This makes a lot of sense, and is something I suggested could be occurring early on. I believe he's not yet figured out why/hard coded it/claimed a placing, but this is imminent.

Olli has IMed me a bunch of times, but needs to post a thread so that the community can help him with his issues.

Who else is close? I have no idea. I'm placing my bet on Mike as he's VERY close.

Since it's a national holiday in the US tomorrow, I hope Mike has the day off and can claim #30!
