Sway bar AND chassis rails and various brackets all derusted and prepped and undersealed (non-tar type). ALL front end hardware is back on the car!!! So it looks totally normal now, and if you go underneath, NO sign of rust, AT ALL! I HATE RUST! :-D

So windscreens (front and back) and seat-belts and I also now need to fix the back seat which I damaged the other day breaking into the car to get my keys from the ignition where I had left them. And the drivers side floor needs a little love, too.

But I have other priorities now, for a few days, now that the car is looking normal again, and I don't have excess fear of $200NZ fines. Wish me luck with that! :-)

Back on the job today! Tonight I may get stuck into the video production again :-) We'll see what else pops up, though. Tomorrow night the car has to be out in the rain again, or the truck does, instead. So I need to get the leaks fixed today, really.

EDIT:

Back seat fixed.
Rear seatbelt "fixed".
Drivers seatbelt "fixed".
Drivers side floor/seat mount derusted/refastened
Vacuumed out the carpet.
Exhaust bracket unbolted and removed.
Cleaned up all of the tools
Fixed rusted up old angle grinder

In progress:

Front windscreen seal up job. - Almost done, just need to seal it, surfaces all prepped and ready to roll.
Rear windscreen derust and seal fixing. https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 5291002881

Tomorrow (now today):

Bottle of stop-smoke stuff into engine.
Fix lock plastic thingy which snapped.

Friday, probably:

Take it for a WOF?
Fix more stuff that they find... :-D

Failed on a few things, namely:
  • rear trailing arm bushes all gone (so that's what that noise is!)
  • leaking steering rack, but I don't think it actually is, though
  • front control arm/sway bar bushes, but I did these and I think they just look dodgy
  • tyre wear, but nankang used a stupid design that looks worn when it's not...
Sigh, more to do, still not legal! New list:
  • Replace front sway/radius rod bushes
  • Fix rear bushes < In progress! Done!
  • Check front bushes < ugly, but might be OK, will replace anyway:
  • Find and fix clunk in rear end (panhard rod bolt not tight at one end)
  • Clean steering rack up, and maybe fix seals/boots? Boots all good.
  • Replace alternator/water-pump belt with something less cracked.
  • Grease into clutch cable sleeve and raise off the floor a little bit more
  • Replace rear shocks with new ones!
  • Still got a leak in the roof, but it's pretty minor and not from around the glass at all. Need to diagnose and fix this, too.

These are being manufactured right now! Likely finished tomorrow ready to be installed! :-D Then it's WOF time, again!

I've also ground and primed the rear sway bar ready for underseal and welded an exhaust bracket that fell off at some point.

Car drives SO much nicer now with new rear shocks and tight bushings/bolts everywhere! :-)

It also has ZERO leaks in it now, which is nice. Warm and dry in winter FTW!

Fitted new bushes

Had four new/second hand Hankook K107 S1 EVO 195/50R15 fitted, too. Drives very nicely now!

And.... wait for it... it has a WOF! :-D

What's in store for the Hotel now that she's legal and driving mint? Engine control stuff, of course!
  • MAP sampling hacks - tried this, physical problem to solve.
  • Staged injection code - already written.
  • Mount Jaguar under dash
  • Shorten/tidy the loom and hose.
  • Fix high side driver and test fp relay code IF I can find legit parts that need reversed logic.
  • Swap in a modern coil if I can be bothered, might help rich-missfire situation when cold.
  • Improve cold-running tunability/behaviour.
  • Tidy up all of the cable tied and half-arse work done up until now so it's reliable in future.
  • New IAT and maybe a hose for CAI :-D
Car wise, there is this stuff that I could improve:
  • Boot still has some minor leaks, need to figure this out... might be the seal? Or tail light seals?
  • Reassemble boot content, spare, lining, carpet, etc. Depends on above.
  • A tiny patch of rust behind rear bumper
  • A tiny patch of rust under front right guard
  • Clean out tow-fitting hole so it's usable (surface rust reduced slight clearance to interference fit)
  • One handbrake cable bracket damaged
  • Various mechanisms surface rusted underneath (eg handbrake adjuster)
  • Left diff seal is leaking, wash brake linings after fixing?
  • Diff breather is leaking, over-filled?
  • Left front brake rotor has runout, replace both fronts and new better pads.
  • Find a 15" spare rim and put a decent correct tyre on it.
  • Second set of 15 or even 16" rims and R888 semi-slicks

Should have done this sooner! Sitting on the side of the road waiting for a ride to my parts box and tools...

Done! And it's working fine. New Dwell table and a little dodgy wiring and she's as good as gold. :-)

So today I added a new port to the manifold and did some test logs... fail. So I guess it's time to implement some more configurable MAP sampling code and push it out. The way I foresee doing it will maintain the excellent responsiveness that I currently enjoy. For a while I had a very smooth MAP signal due to some petrol in the hose, however the car was horrible to drive as the signal lagged reality significantly. Only once I have the MAP working nicely will I bother improving the tune in other areas. Other things that desperately need attention are:
  • dead time calibration
  • idle air control
  • warm up sophistication
  • starting tunability
Aside from these, I also need to get some full time logging happening and solve some noise issues...

Today while testing the MAP signal I had the following happen:
  • CPU resets
  • PLL loss
  • CPU lockup or long term clock loss (yet to prove the cause)
  • Sync losses (not today, but regularly)
Things of note are that my BRV is perfectly clean, as are all of my analogue inputs, and that the wideband wiring is mixed up with the ECU wiring.

My lovely wife would probably appreciate it if the foot well wasn't full of loom, too...
