Today's work:

Verified edge timing with new dizzy position. Spot on 10 BTDC while in dumb follow edges mode (only available on hotels for now). Good. Took a stab in the dark at 75 degrees instead of 90 degrees for decoder angle. Spot on. But wait, what's this? Decoder offset needed changing 20 degrees to be right. How this car runs at all, and survives is beyond me :-D Poor thing. Running mint now, but still has sync losses.

Tomorrow:

Review fuel pump, injectors, injector driver box, coil/ignitor feeds/grounds and redo what needs redoing.
Shorten power/ground feed to ECU and install dodgy extra capacitance because I need it working mint in the next few days, worst case.
Try a different or multiple caps on the coil damping side of things.

Interestingly I took the "IGN" fuse out of the OEM block and everything still worked :-o Presto may know why. I do not, yet.

Didn't get that done, work area occupied, couldn't make noise, worked on software instead. Will try again tomorrow. Half-finished new feature in ULV, which will lead into some proper structure pretty soon and even more features in the process.

Today I tested the coil wiring and found it was direct from the ignition. I found this by backpowering the entire car through the coil wiring and a jumper cable to the +ve terminal on the battery. So then I replaced it with new wiring and it's very own relay direct from battery via fuse. A short test drive revealed that I haven't solved the sync loss issue by doing this, which is pretty disappointing, to say the least. Chronic losses between about 1500 and 2000 especially when tipping in. Almost never any other sync loses at higher RPM or idle. The saga continues! :-/

So, yesterday I noticed that the car kept running briefly after turning off the key. Weird. I then turned on the fan and found that, unsurprisingly, it died instantly. The ECU and engine definitely lived on, proved by timing the key off in order to observe a final CEL flash before death.

All I did was connect two coil power feed wires to the coil of a relay and a fused supply to the relay. No other changes. Weird.

I see a new car running FreeEMS in my future. I will beat this eventually, but it's getting in the way of more important things at the moment.

Poor car is on the side of the road, alone in the dark. Wish it luck.

Went away skiing, left wallet on the dashboard, caught a ride back with a stranger, drove halfway down, left it parked downhill, came home to find this:

Otherwise fine.

Oh, I thought it had a mechanical or electrical breakdown, not mere abandonment issues!

It told me in Morse code (corrupt vs non-corrupt packets) that it missed me. I will try not to leave it alone like that again. Who knows what kind of mischief it might have gotten up to! :-o

As a quick follow up to the above, two weeks ago I put 800km on it in a weekend. Yesterday I put about 250km in it up north and out in the waitaks. Great fun pushing semi hard down ruthless little roads with no visibility and barely enough width for two cars. :-)
