Tow bar is complete! Tested via jumping on it as hard as I could. And more.

Box of connector stock picked up, too.

Tomorrow I shall attempt the above list and try to get some usable data. Then it's on to the other list of things to achieve, again.

Got a suitable electrical load mostly or fully sorted out. Then Presto and his lovely mrs arrived and we all just socialised for the evening. Tomorrow looks to be at least partially written off, too. We'll see how I get on, I guess. To do this testing I basically need an uninterrupted day. There are a LOT of tests to perform... BUT, once the tests are done, it's just electrical/hardware stuff to do, and software to write. So that's nice.

Latest firmware went on to the car tonight! Works "A OK" :-) Also filled it up with oil.... had run out again, reversed up the steep part of the road to the house to avoid it going dry again (front sump pickup). Fail. Tomorrow night I'll be working on the new ECU for the car in anticipation of swapping it in and the associated software changes required to do that.

New list of doom: WOF list! :-o

Some stuff might be slightly wrong...
  1. Blows quite a bit of smoke... 50:1 in 2-stroke terms... (may have to filter the exhaust stream)
  2. Crack in windscreen (have spare ready to go in, may try to hide it, though)
  3. NEW Fix plastic front grill and headlight parts to look normal and hide hidden corrosion
  4. Leak in exhaust kinda obvious (didn't yet find it, but can MIG it up once I do.)
  5. Leak around exhaust manifold including some busted studs etc (not an issue generally, but might be with filter placed in exhaust)
  6. Seatbelt tensioners not ideal (may be able to massage them back into service?)
  7. Spots of rust here and there (some are MIGable, others paintable, nothing bad)
  8. Rear shocks poked (not too expensive to replace)
  9. Rear tyres wrong size (working on this daily LOL) (need to pick up a pair of 195/50R15s for it)
  10. Tow-bar bracket may upset someone (Can cut it off and weld it back on later if worst comes to worst)
  11. Starting awkward, but EFI will solve this, I hope. Starting MINT as of 29 May.
  12. Leaking around rear window, likely rusted, but mostly out of sight (shouldn't present an issue for WOF)
  13. No left rear indicator, bulb holder corroded and without tension Still needs a little love, but getting better. Fully fixed now, new spring.
And possibly more! :-D The joys of driving a POS. If it weren't fun to drive, and if it weren't a FreeEMS piece of history, I'd like scrap it. But it IS fun to drive (did several 2-tyre-fires today), and it IS a piece of genuine motoring history, so it's gotta stay. Plus I don't have a viable alternative yet...

How long to go? 3rd of June is the expiry date? or last OK date? 6 weeks and some change. Hmmmm. Better pull finger, got a few things to get sorted before then!

Got the Jaguar finished and documented and started preparing the car for installation! :-D Will complete that process in the morning and possibly do a few other things on top of that.

Already done:
  • Lead to the ignitor lengthened and disconnected from the DIY setup
  • Classic 60s lockout firmware load switch installed in dash with some figure-8 cable to the ECU. But doesn't work, need to rectify this... FIXED
Possible tasks for tomorrow:
  • Disconnect the distributor hall-effect sensor connections from the DIY setup
  • Disconnect the power and ground connections from the DIY setup
  • Solder a plug and socket pair to each of the car and the DIY setup matching this pin out: http://stuff.fredcooke.com/MyJaguarPinOut.v1.png
  • Fire the car up to ensure no wiring regressions
  • Load new firmware to the Jaguar without the input customisation patch and ensure the car fires up and runs OK with that
  • Add a CEL LED to the dash somewhere obvious and annoying Not bright enough, yet, though.
  • NEW: Add CEL and external firmware load circuitry and connections to DIY setup
  • NEW: Replace DIY setup CPU and reroute signal to correct pin. Buggered the board pulling the old one off :-( Sent out plea for a new one on fb. https://www.facebook.com/FreeEMS/posts/ ... eam_ref=10
  • Add fuel pump relay and wiring and electric carby fuel pump to prove out the system
  • NEW: Remove mechanical fuel pump and make up a cover plate and gasket for it.
  • Add wiring for IAT
  • Add wiring for CHT
  • Add wiring for TPS still need to connect it up at the ECU end
  • Install wideband and wire it up to the loom
  • Add extra grounds, relays and power for the injection setup
What I probably won't do tomorrow:
  • Finish the high-quality staged injection code
  • Swap in the EFI components
  • Tune the new EFI setup
Also need to clean up the bedroom, spare room, and prepare my stuff for Monday morning. And empty out my Nokia of texts so I can receive more, it's chockablock.

Let's see how I get on! :-)

Aside from the things crossed out above, I:
  • Properly fixed the temporary fix for the ignitor ground that I did at new years on the side of the road.
  • Pulled out/found a bundle of really cheap crappy 2 core shielded wire for sensors, the HOTEL deserves only the best...
  • Cleaned up all tools and stuff, took the car for a test drive, and parked it up for the night.
So I'll be doing those extra things this week during the evenings so as to be ready for Friday night! :-)

Regards,

Notice the nasty stumble when i'm flooring it at first?

Cold, not enough choke, and no accel enrich via pump (broken).

Totally forgot to give a description for the above image. As usual, it's in the title: http://stuff.fredcooke.com/HotelRunning ... 400RPM.png

Today's image is this one: http://stuff.fredcooke.com/HotelGetsIAT ... stTime.png

Shielded cable from about 100mm out from the sensor to about 50mm out from the loom plug. No shield for the 250mm or so from plug to Jag. No problems either.

Shitty shielded cable, which will, at some point, motivate me to improve the CEL and sensor failsafe situations :-) I did my best to strain-relieve it, though.

Tomorrow == some heavier wiring. CHT and TPS will have to wait until the EFI gear goes in.

SHE RUNS! And on EFI nonetheless. Not very well, but well enough to hit 4461 RPM @ 130am in the driveway :-D

Waking up the neighbours, not ideal. Running like a haunted shithouse, not ideal. But she runs.

Here's the horrid log of it to prove it :-D

Lots to do tomorrow to make it usable but the worst of the work is done.
