Ordered a top end gasket kit, and today it showed up: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 1254120448

Keen to get this "under the knife" and see if it solves the issue with cylinder 1. Fingers crossed.

Was looking for a side photo to chop to try on some wheels I may buy tonight, and came across this review of the stellar 1, most of which is applicable to this newer stellar 2 model. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRW8zGPSyWY

And this, another mad kiwi with a stellar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80nfE6IlMeE and lol, poor thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRW8zGPSyWY

So in the end, I came up with this, and I reckon it looks pretty good. Will look even better with the silver/light gold colour of this car, and bit lower, too.

Let's see where the bidding stops and whether I can stomach the price for the privilege of better looks and a different metalurgy, as the way it drives right now is just fine.

101 dollars, with four tyres with sufficient tread for a WOF :-D Fingers crossed they fit. Should do, similar width to the ones on there, hopefully similar offset.

Finally pulled finger and took a bad photo of how it looks RIGHT NOW parked on the side of the road in the setting sun with the background brighter than the subject: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 6535812100

And rehosted:

Not a bad looking old girl, IMO.

Picked up the new wheels in the 240 wagon: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 8465864704

Under threat of death by landlord, I stacked 9 wheels/tyres high into the air: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 3864550401

Tyres on two are almost brand new, other two have a worn shoulder, but are very serviceable! Great score! Just one issue:

I have no nuts! None suitable for these wheels, anyway, they require a flat washer style nut with a correct OD to be snug in the rim, I think. Will try to track down what factory ones look like. Any advice on obtaining some would be welcome :-)

Bits of wheel, with super precise measurements:

https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 4129584128
https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 4230089729

EDIT, from one of those pictures, on my crappy old screen, I got this: 66mm of screen vs 45mm of screen, where 45 = 13.0, so (66*13)/45 = 19.0666666666667

Safe to say they are 19mm holes for the nut shank/sleeve/whatever to slide into.

EDIT: Rehosted for comparison with above:

I think along with a set of appropriate M12x1.5 nuts with <= 19mm sleeves, I need to find some slightly lower/stiffer springs for this thing. That'll get them sitting in the guards in a nice way, and stop it looking like it's on stilts. Looks OK on the black 15s, but with the lighter colour wheel, the height is more obvious. And in comparison to the 16" alloys, the 15" setup doesn't fill the guard properly. Stiffer springs will help with body roll, too, which is excessive in this thing. The car settles well, due to good shocks, but flops over and falls into position, which is a bit annoying.

On the brighter side, it didn't scrub in my limited testing today. I put one of the new ones with full tread on the front, too.

Thank you Mr Peugeot for making wheels that fit my little hotel so well and that are so cheap! <3

Going through some photos from ages ago, found some of tyres. So I'm now in a position to fully document the wheel/tyre size history of the mighty hotel.
  • 175/70R13 = original tyres that tried to kill me by delaminating at speed. Other similar sizes likely.
  • 195/65R15 = upgrade tyres that scrubbed on front, melted on back.
  • 185/55R15 = ancient Nankangs that fitted on the front for a while.
  • 195/50R15 = current excellent Hankook S1 Evo tyres (found earlier in thread)
  • 175/70R13 = brand new tyres I bought for WOF duties and have not used, period
  • 195/50R16 = tyres that are on the Peugeot alloys, tested on front without scrub (from auction pic)
So there you have it, from deadly to modern, and several variations on the theme in between!

EDIT: The new size on the alloys is a bit bigger (20-25mm larger diameter) than stock, so I'll need to do a speedo check to ensure it's close to accurate, and maybe replace with a lower profile tyre of the same width if/when I get a chance to wear these out.

EDIT2: 195/45R16 is about the same rolling diameter as the current 15" and original 13" tyres.

SHE LIVES! It was only 5 or 6 weeks ago, that it was last running, but still, it felt like forever.

Gave it a new old battery, old one got china charger killed/split/leaking/not good.

Gave it a run, missing badly, as before, rerouted a lead, no change, replaced the plug I said would be bad, no change, replaced the next plug over, boom, smooth as silk. Plugged in a laptop and upped the dwell a bit everywhere from low Voltage up and when I adjusted the cell it was running in, the idle came up 50 or 100 or more RPM which was nice. Then em_knaps took it for a drive with me observing/laptop holding/logging, and it was smooth and relaxing. And then some friends of his showed up, so I took it for a drive, and hammered it, as usual, and I logged it with ULV and ULV told me this:

Orphan: 0xC002 0x800D000000FE0000E6C30010 because: Scotty, they're not related at all!

and later

Oops, firmware bug! Should have 40 but lost 1 orphans!

In amongst the interrogation data. Must be old firmware! [Yep: Tue Jun 16 11:48:24 NZST 2015] Thanks ULV, I'll check up on that :-) Love quality software. Even when I have to write it myself.

Interesting to see the different throttle profile shapes/colours for his driving vs mine, same car, same day, same tune :-)
