Forgot to attach the logs, will fix, though, but later. Signs of abuse and neglect: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 4674307073

Over the weekend I received a letter about this car. It said: Register your car ASAP. But I can't because no WOF. And if it had a WOF I couldn't because no money. So that leaves me with: - Tonight
- Thursday
- Friday
- Saturday
- Sunday
- Monday
To half-legally drive it, until the rego expires and the exemption that I setup today kicks in, raising the penalty for driving it into the road tax fraud area (>> $200) out of the no WOF area ($200). If I'd not setup the exemption it'd be $400, half WOF, half reg, but the rego would start owing back payments and then putting it on hold would require a payment. So it's going on hold the day the rego ends. So if I pull my finger out sometime in the next few days, maybe I can do some testing and tuning on the car with a new feature or two before it all turns to custard for this thing, and it's abandoned forever on the side of the road in a dark scary street. I guess you'll see more posts here one way or another, as regardless of new features, I plan to get over to it and give it a bit of a drive before it runs out. :-(

Two drives, first me, then Rob. Two logs, first mine, then his. Fired up from cold pretty easily after sitting for weeks :-) A few of random shifts for me, in seconds: 6037 - 5525 = 0.512 / 6183 - 5525 = 0.658, difference = 0.14618765 - 18342 = 0.423 / 18966 - 18342 = 0.624, difference = 0.2019487 - 9066 = 0.421 / 9772 - 9066 = 0.706, difference = 0.285CBF doing any more, and a couple of Rob's: 8067 - 7501 = 0.566 / 8532 - 7501 = 1.031, difference = 0.46516404 - 15953 = 0.451 / 16889 - 15953 = 0.936, difference = 0.485Which are measured by first non-100% TPS to first 100% TPS method. Which is wrong. Now i'll look at the times between first non 100% TPS and peak low RPM post shift (clutch fully reengaged). So the clutch was suffering for the difference between the two. 0.15 to 0.3 seconds for me, and 0.47 seconds for Rob. Amazing how different it sounded! Numbers aren't that different. Screenshots showing the difference in style with the intermediate RPM increase that the clutch had to drag back down. Interesting stuff :-) Sorry for selling you out, man! :-D To be fair, he was probably trying to be gentle to the poor thing. Just too eager to get back on the gas before the synchros and/or clutch had finished. :-) Logs are attached if anyone wants to poke around themselves. Annoying to retrace the above due to multiple instances of those stamps in the logs. It'd be nice if there were milli and 8th milli traces automatically generated. Could be arranged.

Gave it a run and a drive. Testing inconclusive. More required, and a new plug or two, too. Left the new firmware on it as it drove fine.

More testing, more conclusive. We have lift off. Hotel is crisp and runs better than ever. If it had torque past 5k you'd think it was an NA race engine :-D However race engines shouldn't be left with straight water in them long term... : Needs a rebuild anyway... and that's only a bad water pump, I guess. Didn't check.

Another bit of data from that night, a broken wire somewhere. Quite annoying when trying to do a U turn! :-) "HotelTurningRightHardCausesLossOfSignal.png"

Paid the old girl a visit today. Poor car. Got there to find one window partly out of place, looks like it just fell apart or the inside of the door is not 100% anymore. Glued back in place. Fired STRAIGHT up though, pretty impressive for 6 months unused and one plug/cylinder in bad shape. Some minor deterioration in places, but all curable. Ran on 3 unless under load enough to clear the plug and keep it clear. Water pump leak seems to have self cured (not forever!) and battery wasn't dead despite long hiatus. Nice. The intermittent cutting out issue that I previously experienced was cured after it just died in front of a prospective evo owner who might want a taste of FreeEMS. Turns out that the external loom thing is fine, but the bending back and forward in use and in transit has ruined some of the joints inside the box, or broken a wire internally. I'll fix that soon before I use it on some other car again. Drove it around the block a few times and did a little bit of a skid etc. Nothing too impressive. Just enough to motivate me to get it fixed up and back on the street again. I do enjoy driving it. And it'd be pretty sweet a little lower on the pug alloys I bought for it... If I could find a 16v sohc head that could take the crappy manifold I might be keen to just swap to that setup instead and adapt a few things. Needs to be shitty to test various bits of code, though. A worst case scenario, if you like. Uninteresting datalogs that I didn't even look at yet: http://stuff.fredcooke.com/hotel.resurr ... .drive.zipOver 5 months since I touched it. No pics/vids.

Preparing for a WOF, so I took the 13" wheels with brand new tyres over there and swapped off the 15s: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 6911810560https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 7736944640https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 9910198272https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 2298446849https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 5473774593https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 8235583489 Next up: 0) ECU cuts out, dodgy wiring 1) left diff seal leaks, drum shoes oiled up 2) Poor alignment in front end 3) Brakes need a few heat cycles 4) A couple of rust spots coming through on passenger side 5) Boot needs a dust of paint to cover rust stains appearing in places from being wet All likely post easter...

Since then I fitted the factory chrome hubcaps, a good mate took it for a WOF, I bought rego, and the other night I brought it home! That's 11 out of 14 within a short walk of the garage or in it. And one trailer. The Suzuki is at another mate's place, as is the other trailer, and the beetles are in storage. Consolidation close :-) Related: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 8419814401
