FreeMAP - Taking the bullsh*t out MAP selection.

There is a lot of information floating around about OEM Map sensors, which ones are better for what uses, how accurate they are, so on. A fair chuck of it is just plain rubbish and has NO scientific backing, as I have come to find.

With the above in mind, I have built a specific test bed to test and then compare MAP sensor results.

The project can be followed here https://github.com/presto/MapSensors at the moment the data is in excel spread sheet format, that can be opened in open office too. There is a pdf version for good measure.

The AIM here is to clear the air for MAP sensors! get reliable tested and accurate information about each unit and house it all nicely in one location.

Let the work begin!!

Preston.

Good man! Presto, you should grab Sim's results from his thread(s) and include them, they proved to be fairly accurate. Also, chuck the original images in an images dir in the repo with informative names :-)

I look forward to using your data to select cheap DIY MAP sensors in future! :-)

Fred.

Hi Presto

I have 2 more sensors that you can test and add to your list.

Denso 079800 1691 5V PS-22

And

Toyota 89421-20020 079800-0343 5V

I am happy to loan them to you for testing.

The three of you, Dan, Preston, Aaron all need to catch up, but AT the OS.co.nz meet at BF with your cars, on trailers if need be, for an impressive show of tech for the os.co.nzers :-)

Presto, do you have this sensor:

The MAP sensor on the engine AN08:
079800-5410
5V PS-4A
DENSO

It's from that 2002 Honda, we need a good calibration for it :-) K, thx, bye.

Fred.

Bump for similarly high-quality data for any other sensors out there!

From a Honda Civic, I'm pretty sure:

Tested with a multimeter and a Mityvac pump with a gauge:

Most likely from a Civic or Legend:
Denso 079800-1691

Prelude:
Denso 079800-2520

Spreadsheet

The power supply was a crappy universal one so the 5Vin was less than ideal. The pump was a Beta 960P w/ gauge, Vout was measured with a cheap multimeter :?

Apparently the other side of both above sensors, and likely other ones too, look like this:
