Openoffice note

Post by jharvey »

As some of you may know or remember, I've had some trouble opening the openoffice spread sheet documents. I think I found a solution to the problem.

# yum remove openoffice-core

[blah]

Removing:
openoffice.org-core i386 1:2.3.0-6.15.fc8 installed 205 M
Removing for dependencies:
openoffice.org-draw i386 1:2.3.0-6.15.fc8 installed 2.9 M
openoffice.org-langpack-en i386 1:2.3.0-6.15.fc8 installed 21 M
openoffice.org-math i386 1:2.3.0-6.15.fc8 installed 3.4 M
openoffice.org-writer i386 1:2.3.0-6.15.fc8 installed 7.2 M

# yum install openoffice-calc

[blah]

Installing:
openoffice.org-calc i386 1:2.3.0-6.6.fc8 fedora 7.8 M
Installing for dependencies:
openoffice.org-core i386 1:2.3.0-6.6.fc8 fedora 82 M

Would appear that when I installed openoffice-core, it chose 6.15 not 6.6. For some reason 6.15 didn't come with -calc, but does come with -math instead. Where 6.6 doesn't come with -math, but does come with -calc. Also appears -calc uses the .ods extension, where -math does not. That explains my problem opening the spread sheets. I'm currently downloading and installing the above noted 90 megs. I feel confident this will fix my problem.

Ummmm, why is your OO so out of date?? You should be on OO 3.0.X by now.

Code: Select all

Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1:3.0.1-5
I'd recommend not installing core and just installing the base package so that you get the full suite.

Which version of redhat are you using anyway? Must be pretty damn old.

Also, OO is free and open source software so I've created this forum, which I've been meaning to for a while, and moved it here from non-free engine management.

It's a MythDora box, and it's primary task is as my DVR. It's running Fedora Core 8, so the OS is about a year old if I recall correctly. I know that MythDora 10 is out which uses FC10, but I haven't upgraded yet. What I've got is working just fine, so I'm not in a rush. Runs just fine, other than the OO thing that is.

[edit] also for got to note, confirmed, I can now open the files just fine with the 6.6.

It's good that you can open files, but I'll be saving them with 3.0 so they might turn out a bit funky for you. Certainly, staroffice warns about opening files from newer versions, but I can't say I've seen anything else wrong.

Have you considered using a normal distro and putting mythtv on it?
