If no luck, try that, it's what Preston did, and i think that he was mostly happy. People seem to prefer 10.04, though. Ubuntu sucks, in general :-(

Because removing upower breaks ucuntu, this approach is superior. Either that or switch to a non-gnome window manager and take control of your computer back into your own hands.

In

/etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf

Add

send host-name "cheetah";

Then it shows on routers etc.
