DIESEL

I have two idi diesels one small Isuzu pup 2.2 diesel and a 1991 Ford F-250 7.3 idi. Not have injector pumps and they work ok. But I want to make a common rail system for it. These are very very dumb diesels I don't think it would take much to make this work. Anybody ever done this

No body had done it AFAIK. The hardware will be the most challenging part for sure. Rudimentary timing/duration accurate injection isn't a problem. It should be trivial to match or exceed the mechanical pump's performance. How do you plan to approach the hardware side of it?

What hardware are you thinking of. Like injectors rail and things like that? I'm new to the EFI world. So I may not be thinking of the hardware

What hardware will be needed I can make just about anything

High pressure pump, injectors, rails, plumbing, drivers, wiring, position sensors, feedback sensors, etc.

I would imagine I can make a parts list and fill most of that at the parts store. I have to do some math on the proper injector size. I would prefer to use a dodge common rail injector just because it seems to make sense to me. I can build the rail of stainless tubing buy the hi pressure pump and regulator sound alike a good idea. But that could be my inner carburetor talking. I figure a position sensor on the damper pully and I'll have a wheel cut and pressed in.. And I was hoping I could rely on the good folks around here to help me with the wiring. With advice only of course lol

After some more research I think I will move away from from common rail to just a EFI. I will have to do some work to the pre cambers in the head. (Going to do the Isuzu first, it has half as many problems as the ford.). So I'll get some pictures of the head and my plan for it. I'll test the spray patterns before I mount the head. I have one at the shop now getting rebuilt.

What do you mean "Just EFI"?

I was thinking just some regular injectors but the psi needed is way to high. I wonder if I can keep mi injection pump but only use it to make fuel pressure and set up new injectors to run. It would be a common rail. Or a ford pump from a power atroke

There are many many reasons why normal injectors won't work. :-) Like I said, the hardware will be your challenge. Keep us updated, though.
