T-Shirt Design Competition

Post by Fred »

A kind gentleman is hoping to supply some FreeEMS T-Shirts for use on my body (and perhaps others) at an upcoming event. My ideas were:
  • BIG FreeEMS logo on back
  • Small FreeEMS logo on front
  • Small DIYEFI.org logo on front
  • QR code and URL for both sites on front and/or back
  • FreeEMS logo works best on white.... given some of it is black, but...
  • Car people destroy white shirts in minutes... so black might be better, or maybe some other colour?
  • I suck at art, but know what I like...
Given that last point I came up with these, which suck:

Please do better! Use website logos for this thread, but if it's a winner, we'll give you an EPS to work with to do the actual design for the printer.

Thanks in advance.

PS, time frame is short be quick! :-)

I support this idea.

The buyer could be able to choose de color of the shirt, eg I would like a dark green one, and a blue one.
I like the idea of having the big symbol on the back, but without that ugly "egg" around it :p Then a phrase underneath Like "The Open Source Engine Management System" and the symbol can be completed with smaller letters saying ".org" people get would memoeize it quickly.

On the front I would propbaly just have a small FreeEMS logo, and leave the freeems and dieyefi logo and QR codes on the sleeves.

Also an option to have the number of the car and model name of the front would be cool, people that have runing cars will like it.

But i just really suck at design.

You might be right about the DIYEFI.org thing, but I kinda want to have it on there anyway, somewhere, somehow.

The "Engine number #1,2,3,13" thing is a fine idea, maybe a box for them to be written in by hand with a marker pen or something?

QR codes should have human readable plain type URL next to them. I think they also need the logo next to them to draw attention and make it visually obvious.

The phrase idea is a good one too, completely forgot to include that.

Even though you likely suck as bad as me, take a swing at making your ideas visual for us, please.

That shirt would look better white without the oval. Just an equally sized QR on the back.

Andy, before I read your post I got an email from a friend saying this:
A friend wrote:there... i fixed it for you.
badly and in about two minutes. You should get Ben to do it properly though, he's very good at that sort of thing.
The QR Codes will have to be pretty large if you want people to be able to use them without invading the personal space of the person wearing the tshirt.

To which my reply was:
me, me! wrote:Thanks! :-)

Personal space invasion is OK, I plan to engage people, chat a bit, and then they can scan that shit if they want.

You may have a point, though, maybe a HUGE one on the back would be good.

Good call re Ben.

Spot ya! :-)
Great minds think alike! And yeah, the oval sucks, it was a 2 minute hack to show an idea, albeit a bad one :-)

I like to keep things simple and the logo should work fine on black. But maybe keep it 2-color and no gradients on "sparks" :indiff:

Nicely done. +1 about gradients. They usually look horrible on custom t-shirts and a two-tone color selection will be vivid, easily silkscreened, and also less expensive.

My preference is actually for FreeEMS to be on front, but then again I usually wear open button-downs over t-shirts.

The idea of having the barcodes on the sleeves is kind of interesting. Plus, seems easier to hold still and have someone photo-scan your upper arm rather than chest. /me also wonders if a certain FreeEMSer was contemplating cameraphoning nipples when he dreamed that design up! "Okay, sweetie, now the right one..."

At some point it would be nice to have a custom racing shirt.

Edit: Per design standards, a shirt would somewhat duplicate the color schemes seen in the DIY-EFI, FreeEMS webpages and logos. What do we consider to be the "acceptable" colors to pull from? These should probably be consistent down to the color hash should we want to reuse any designs for letterhead schemes, promotional pencils, etc. Maybe this thread can also be about general identity branding once the shirt's figured out. We're definitely approaching the public relations, business card, and freebie gift stage.

MrOnion, I wonder if something like this could be done, with white around the standard logo?

Image

Or how about grey t-shirts? Let me try that:

Not too bad! And not white. And not black.

So that you can quickly expose yourself to passing females.

I think it works, take a look at this:

Image

Do NOT scan that... :-/

These are the actual codes:

http://stuff.fredcooke.com/QR.code.for. ... cebook.png
http://stuff.fredcooke.com/QR.code.for.diyefi.org.png
http://stuff.fredcooke.com/QR.code.for. ... outube.png

http://stuff.fredcooke.com/QR.code.for.freeems.org.png
http://stuff.fredcooke.com/QR.code.for. ... outube.png

I used medium protection, 3 border, 30 pixel size. Can regenerate (using qtqr) if we need higher res, but scaling with no interp will work fine.
/me also wonders if a certain FreeEMSer was contemplating cameraphoning nipples when he dreamed that design up! "Okay, sweetie, now the right one..."
LOL, if you meant me, I'm camera-phone free :-p

What exactly is a "racing shirt"? I didn't manage to determine this by searching.
Edit: Per design standards, a shirt would somewhat duplicate the color schemes seen in the DIY-EFI, FreeEMS webpages and logos.
Future site has a grey background, white main background, black text, usual logo(s). Here's an old preview of it:

R888-grey is nice :-p No idea. This is not my bag, baby.
