on a big scale where there is more "white" space between the numbers and the cell borders, the lines can be bigger.
The other option is to make the space bigger by default. But i hate seeing thick boarder lines in a small scale anyway..

Re: Best Fonts For Numeric Tables And Tuning
need more padding around the tripple digits. it look confusing, but the single and double are fine.
Re: Best Fonts For Numeric Tables And Tuning
Going for barely-readable, maximally-compact, here, but noted :-) Same as before, but with anti aliasing enabled:

Re: Best Fonts For Numeric Tables And Tuning
Last post with anti-aliased font looks more like light grey instead of black at least on my screen.
All free and commercial fonts that were present on my laptop: http://62.236.109.200/font-test/all/
Additional free fonts I downloaded today: http://62.236.109.200/font-test/free/
For example Droid, Noto and Roboto are licensed under Apache license 2.0. Liberation and Tiresias are GPL v2. Tinos is under something called SIL Open Font License which should be quite free as it's even accepted by Debian.

Zero pad numbers and ditch the borders altogether?Fred wrote:Yeah, I've been thinking about how to do single line borders for smaller scales, though I like it on bigger scales, and they'll be thicker and other colours for various reasons, too.

If the grid's lighter than the numbers (as opposed to the numbers being lighter than the grid), the two will cooperate.
Maybe a toggle for grid lines? I hate to see it go entirely.
