How-To Setup a Dual Boot Debian 6 and Win 7 Dev Workstation

Post by DeuceEFI »

I have created a repository on github with a How-To document detailing how to setup a dual booting Debian 6 and Windows 7 workstation to use for working with FreeEMS.

https://github.com/DeuceEFI/FreeEMS_Workstation_Setup

This includes instructions on where to download software including:

qserialport, cutecom, MegaTunix, FreeEMS Toolchain, FreeEMS firmware, FreeEMS-Loader, CodeWarrior Free download with HiWave Debugger (needed to flash Serial Monitor) and PE Micro Unsecure-12 (needed to unsecure a MCU if a flash erase goes badly wrong) along with all the necessary pre-requisite packages.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also created a github repository with the complete information I have been able to piece together to build and use a TBDML originally developed by Daniel Malík in 2005.

This repository is located at https://github.com/DeuceEFI/TBDML-12f-GPL

Hey Andy, I merged those threads as there was nothing Jag about them. Feel free to edit the superfluous post to contain something useful later :-)

Hello andy
Does this work for Ubuntu as well?(i cant seem to get it to work for me)
Some how i cant get Sebian on to my comp,i tried it 6 times and my computer seems to crash a lot when i am treing to run Sabian
But it is easy to get a dual boot for Ubuntu, just download it and every thing goos by it self
Is there a place where i can find how to work the terminal in Ubuntu and what i have to type in there? (the lines from you and freeEMS dont work for me or i miss a few simple steps)
(maybe i am to old for Linux?)

I thought building the hardware would be hard part for me
I guess i was wrong

You're never too old for Linux! Give it time, be patient, and don't be afraid to try stuff. Just take backups of everything all the time, then it doesn't matter what you do wrong and you can experiment more freely and learn more :-)

Years ago when I worked in a retail electronics shop I had a lady customer who was in her 80s and knew more about Linux than all of the staff except me :-)

The terminal commands for Ubuntu should be the same for Ubuntu since Ubuntu is built from Debian sources, but there could be some differences. I will download the latest Ubuntu install DVD and see what I can figure out. :-)

Harry: I will download 11.10 now and install it as a dual boot on my WinXP laptop and see if I can help you get yours going :-)

I will keep you posted here on my findings.

Harry: Are you trying to use 32bit or 64bit Ubuntu/Debian? My installs of Win7 and Debian 6 (Squeeze) were both 32bit versions... just curious.
