Today I had fun trying to find a cas wheel.

The following engines all use the same 360-4 CAS wheel that I have. Nissan RB30, VG30, GA16

The only luck I had was from a 1990 Mitsubishi Galant

Will this do?

Yes it will! :-)

That's exactly what my truck has in it and what it was running from in all of the videos of it on youtube. I have bench testing here for it and can test your configuration for you before you try anything. If you want to get better resolution later there are lots of options and you can use that disk as the pattern to have custom ones made.

Will you be using this with the optical sensor out of the Nissan? If so, i'm VERY interested in how it behaves once you can get us an RPM reading from it in some fashion.

Have parts on order that are needed for the conversion, will take a few weeks in transit.

Be a good idea to test it out before fitting into the engine. I have a drill that will do 5krpm that has a chuck big enough to fit the shaft of the dizzy into it, would make a good test rig.

But with out FreeEMS hardware or a data analyser do you have any suggestions on how to log this data in a useful manner? Or should I just wait till I have the FreeEMS hardware ready as well?

You can just wait, no problem there.

If you really want to, you can use a sound card input to log that CAS. They just pull to ground, so you can supply the cas with 9-15 volts and put a weak 5v pull up on each output line and feed it into your line in. That will saturate the drivers, but shouldn't damage them. Pull up to a lower voltage if you're worried. on linux there is xoscope, unsure about windows, unsure what you're running! :-)

For that test to be useful the rpm needs to be pretty steady with very little mechanical jitter. Also, btw, 5k on your drill is 10k engine speed :-) The lower and steadier the speed, the better that test will be.

Another way that you could do it is at zero RPM with a protractor and a couple of LEDs :-) It's up to you, if you want to experiment and provide some interesting and unique data, go ahead, if not, it can wait.

Running mac and linux, no love left for microsoft.

xoscope looks like a great solution. Worried about the stability of the wheel and sensor readings at higher RPM's, not concerned about the code side. Feel the need to test the CAS solution before it goes in an engine so I know it behaves correctly.

xoscope is OK, if a little clunky :-)

The stability of the setup will entirely depend upon the drive from the crank to the cam and from the cam to the disk. If your drive to the disk is tight and smooth then it will be tight and smooth also. Worry about the engineering side of it, the opto sensors are rock solid in my experience with them. The code should be fine to a very high RPM - I tested it to 8000, though.

I have picked up a jbperf Peak & Hold Injector Driver Board. Wondering where is the best place to mount it, assume inside or next to the FreeEMS box.

Ask because I am ordering cables

I did a setup using one of those on a turbo 4 cylinder a while back and we put it on the firewall right at the top close to the bonnet in an alloy box with holes only in the bottom and sealed around the lid. It will get warm under load, and pulls high currents so is better to keep as close to the injectors/battery as is practical and run signal wires to. However you need to keep it dry/protected too. Don't you need two of those boxes for your LPG setup, though? Those LPG injectors are reputed to be hard to drive, and paralleling P&H injectors isn't the best idea in the first place, or do you only have four?

Sounds like a good idea. Having 2 of them I will need some heat sinks as well.

Those LPG injectors are reputed to be hard to drive
Followed this dude http://www.cletusracin.com/index.php?pa ... megasquirt who used the same sort of setup but with MS. First time I have heard they are hard to drive, thought they were just the same as any low Z injectors.

They'll probably be OK. They can be slow to open and require minor changes to the P&H circuit with those chips/drivers, that's all.

Re the heat sinks, I overkilled the one on the little 4 cyl car, looked great, would NEVER get hot :-)
