New guy

Post by exric »

Hello all

I have been reading the forums.
I like what has been done.
I am so new to this whole thing.
I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 5.9 L it has a full sequential fuel injection system with distributor for ignition.
Also has a 46re electric controlled 4 speed trans.
I am a computer tech but new to auto computer and tuning.
Took some auto shop classes at college and work on autos as a hobby.
It would seem so cool if i could build my own ECM/PCM.
My question for the forum is. Is it possible for m jeep to use the hardware and software to run it.

Thanks

Anthony

The simple answer is yes. Or no. Depending upon what you mean by possible.

You'll have to take care of the auto gearbox somehow. I can't help much with that.

Then it depends on the types of signals available, whether we support them, and whether you are OK with swapping/supplementing if not. Or, as an alternative, just waiting. Jeep being Chrysler, this likely means it's not supported, yet, and that it's a relatively tricky type. Would need more info to be sure.

I would be ok with swapping some stuff to get it to work.
I will do some research to find out what signals my stuff makes.
I figure that would cover the following stuff
crank shaft sensor
cam shaft sensor
injector signals
air flow
MAP
maybe the primary coil firing something
that is all i can think of right now.
let me know if i missed something
then I will compare to see what is possible

i figure it would run freeEMS on a jaguar 7a board if that is correct.

thanks

We're in the same boat, I'm also new here, I also have a 5.9L Magnum with a 46RE... If I'm correct there's not sequential injection with the JTEC computer that comes on ours stock. From what I've read, it's paired batch injection that's not entirely sequential. It shouldn't be too difficult to get set up, there's a little bit of modification to really get things working well, but it shouldn't be too bad. Personally, I'm getting rid of my distributor. I'd rather go full coils with sequential ignition.
