FreeEMS revision A version 1 first edition PCB feeler

Post by Fred »

This thread is to gauge interest in getting a FreeEMS PCB through a future bulk buy.

Please post in this thread if you are in principle interested in going in on a bulk buy of 10 or 20 of the initial FreeEMS PCB.

Discussion here : http://www.diyefi.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=407

One post per person in this thread please.

If your interest is conditional upon various features please state that. Some things you may or may not care about :
  1. On board IGBT ignition drivers
  2. On board low Z injector drivers
  3. Thermistor self heating prevention :-p
  4. NO thermistor self heating prevention
  5. Current feedback circuitry on injectors
  6. NO current feedback circuitry on injectors
  7. ONLY SMD components
  8. ONLY TH components
  9. SMD components supported
  10. TH components supported
  11. X primary fuel channels required/preferred
  12. X ignition channels required/preferred
  13. X auxiliary low current low side drives preferred and required OnOff / PWM
  14. X auxiliary high current low side drives preferred and required OnOff / PWM
  15. How many boards?
Also state how many you would be willing to purchase to make up numbers if required.

My requirements are :
  1. Don't need - either
  2. Don't need - either
  3. Don't want - prefer not, but either
  4. Don't care - prefer not, but either
  5. Don't want - prefer not, layout dependent
  6. Undecided, layout dependent
  7. Won't buy
  8. Will buy
  9. Don't care - either
  10. Required
  11. 4 primary fuel channels prefer 6
  12. 4 LOW LEVEL ignition channels prefer 6
  13. prefer : 2 on/off for relays for fans no low current pwm
  14. prefer : 2 high current PWM for boost/idle, no high current on/off
  15. 1 or 2 depending on how much I like the design
Unused injector channels can drive high current on/off stuff and unused ignition channels can drive low current and/or high current on/off stuff. PWM outputs would need to be just for that only.

Quote this message and edit away all the stuff except the main list and then run through it changing the words to your thoughts on the item.

To summarise for me :

1 or 2 boards
Must have 4 high Z fuel channels
Must have 4 low level ignition drivers
Must have through hole component layout
If the current feedback isn't dropped and it makes a mess of the layout I may be not be interested. Would prefer it wasn't there.

It is assumed that basic stuff like good power supplies and sensor inputs including at least 2 VR inputs, analog wbo2, air, water, tps, map, atmo, etc will be included by default. You don't need to worry about that sort of thing. If there is something you really care about that isn't on the list, please mention it clearly.

State your interest here!! :-)

It will be a little while before it goes to be printed, and a little while before we have usable code for it too this just a feeler to see what people are and aren't interested in buying and testing/using.

  15. How many boards?
I'd also:
NEED: 1-WBO2, drive for 1 relay (fans)
Want STRONGLY: Knock Sensor In, Drive for 2 relays (total), 2 PWM soleniods
Want: EGT in, Drive for 3 relays (total), RPM based Knock Sensor decoding (I have a lead on some circuits for this)
Wish - ooodles more, 4 secondary injectors, etc etc.

  1. On board IGBT ignition drivers at least 1
  2. On board low Z injector drivers no preference
  3. Thermistor self heating prevention required
  4. NO thermistor self heating prevention Isn't this the same question twice?
  5. Current feedback circuitry on injectors yes please, but not a deal breaker
  6. NO current feedback circuitry on injectors again same question right?
  7. ONLY SMD components no preference
  8. ONLY TH components no preference
  9. SMD components supported no preference
  10. TH components supported no preference
  11. primary fuel channels required/preferred at least 1, no preference about more

  13. auxiliary low current low side drives preferred and required OnOff / PWM no preference
  14. auxiliary high current low side drives preferred and required OnOff / PWM no preference
  15. How many boards?1-2 main PCB's
My interest is around small engines, as they are good platforms for experimental purposes.

I have posted in some of the discussions.

Preferences:
1. On board IGBT ignition drivers
No. Not desired for this install, but please keep them in the design.
2. On board low Z injector drivers
No. Not desired for this install. Not wanted in general as it complicates things in a revision A 'base system'.
3. Thermistor self heating prevention :-p
No. Not desired or necessary in general for EFI, IMO.
4. NO thermistor self heating prevention
Yes. Preferred embodiment for 'base system'.
5. Current feedback circuitry on injectors
No, please. Not desired as for 'base system' not necessary to consume board and complicate drive circuitry to get this info. Easy enough to do as daughter if necessary. Please, walk comes before run.
6. NO current feedback circuitry on injectors
Yes. Preferred embodiment.
7. ONLY SMD components
No. Old eyes and too many possible problems to debug over internet.
8. ONLY TH components
Yes. For all passive devices, the 'TH plus SMD' trace layout looked good to me.
9. SMD components supported
Yes, Many nice FETs and IGBTs are avail in larger, easy to solder packages (dpak). That said, I am also in favor of the vertical to220 install geometry if devices are avail.
10. TH components supported
Yes, must.
11. X primary fuel channels required/preferred
4 fuel channels
12. X ignition channels required/preferred
4 ignition channels (plus cam and crank inputs both hall)
13. X auxiliary low current low side drives preferred and required OnOff / PWM
1 tachometer output
14. X auxiliary high current low side drives preferred and required OnOff / PWM
3 high current drives in addition to Fuel pump (PWM idle, PWM Boost, PWM ELCD)
15. How many boards?
1

Additionally I wish for 2 inputs (on/off)
A/C on, clutch engaged/disengaged
