Desoldering a QFP112

... with only a good soldering iron and bits of scrap, saving the board not the ic. Ideas?

Use a razor knife to cut the legs of the IC off close to the body of the IC, then use the soldering iron to heat the remaining legs to remove them.

Beware, you should cut horizontally and be very careful not to rip pads off of the board. If you cut vertically, you can easily cut traces by accident. Once the body of the IC is gone, you can simply wipe the legs away carefully with a hot iron. Beware again, though, too much heat or pressure and your pads are gone. Good luck :-D
