Good to know that it backfeeds like that. I'll keep hooking it to computers that I care intimately and deeply about, and will continue probing 5V logic with it. Will be careful not to attach it to anything else, though! Gutted that it died on you and took out your PC too :-(

It seems to have stuck some 12v power up the ground or something, and screwed a voltage regulator. The usb ports still work if I supply power to one port externally.

I use a USB hub when I use usb development hardware and tools, I tend to use a laptop to do dev work and once I burn out my usb ports there is no way to add anymore.
