88 Mazda 626 Garrett GT3782VA VGT MS2E

Well, here it is. My 88 626 is really just a glorified test mule for whatever I can think up. This is the latest project. The turbo is from a 6.0L Ford Powerstroke diesel engine. I am a Ford technician, so they are easy to come by. The turbo features VGT(Variable Geometry Turbine) technology. If you don't know what that is, get on youtube and search.

The point of this exercise is not to make 600whp as the turbo is likely capable, but just to see how well it works. I am using MS2Extra for engine managemnet and using the boost controller to control the turbo. There are still a few bugs in that scheme that I am working on. I will be adding a wastegat as a pecautionary measure this weekend. With the controls the way they are now I can start making boost around 2000rpms in 2nd gear and at about 3000 rpms it goes up past 12 psi, where MS is currently tuned for. I will update here as I learn more. Heres some pics, enjoy:

Yeah, Ive been chatting with Aero about it. I am trying to convinve him that electronics are the way to go for his VGT project. Im still working on the controls and tuning. I have bigger injectors to install and a fuel pump. we'll see what happens.

Electronic control of some sort even if it is just some position monitor to prevent over speeding and fuel cut if stuck is a good thing. Full control really shouldn't be all that hard.

I have no position or speed monitor, i'm just roughly controlling the boost with the DC table. I installed a WG this weekend, so i will change the DC table and let the WG control excess boost.

Seriously Fred, If I was half as smart as you are in the computer/electronics field I would already have a custom controller made. I wish I could turn all of your DIYEFI efforts toward a suitable VGT controller. ;)

HA! I would need to go to school again. Thats not happening because I don't have time. I wouldn't know where to start.

What is git?

I have no clue with code.

A circuit I can build with instructions. I'm working on basic electronics right now. It'll be awhile.

I just don't have the time or background to figure out how to run the stock VGT actuator. It will be interesting when someone does that is for sure.

Now, Fred, WE(my wife and I) decided she would grow a potbelly...I just didn't think I would get it on the first shot!

To quote one of my closest frieds when I told him "you must have some strong swimmers!"

Plus I realized that properly utilizing this turbo is going to mea having a 500+hp capable engine. I also feel that this turbo deserves a REAL manifold, something that flows properly. So, until I have those things, it will be on hold. I do, however have a good friend who is about as smart as Fred and has an Integra with a built engine who is interested. We will see what happens..
