Boot sorted: cleaned, dried, repositioned, greased, cable tied, tested lock to lock in the air.
Handbrake cable adjusted and centre console reassembled, feels good now.
Couldn't get the right type of rego pocket. Didn't remove any glue.. Didn't wipe the door jams clean.
Power steering feels weird and has a shudder to it, possibly to do with the bootless rack end, or slightly whining pump? Your input welcome!

Updates:
WOF obtained the other day, rego pocket obtained and installed!
Today I did a few small things to it, too:
Greased the front door detent mechanisms.
Noticed that both front doors are out of alignment a similar amount - as if the whole front of the car is lower than it should be relative to the rest. Hmmm.

I have NEVER before been responsible for such a HUGE amount of white smoke. Wait, I take that back. None that smelled of glycol instead of burnt rubber, anyway. Complete white-out in the rear vision mirror when the hose blew off/burst/split/ripped at 6k RPM on an on ramp in second gear :-D Mist of coolant all over the rear window! Puddles underneath. White smoke wafting out of the car in every direction through every gap as soon as we stopped. I warned the mrs that she may need to evacuate if it was oil smoke as it could catch fire. Just coolant in the end, though! Thank goodness.
So she's spending the night elsewhere out in the cold and dark. Sleep tight, 940!

EDIT: Added the last photo, and realised that in that photo is a broken plastic pipe that is still held by the hose clip. Oops. Hopefully I have a spare from the caravan. Will limp it home with a fill up of water and blocked hose and turned off heat. A job for another day. Sigh.
Note: This car has the stiffer green coolant bottle pressure cap, not the normal lower pressure black one. I wonder if a lower pressure one would have vented more of the expansion that my right foot was causing? In any case, that plastic was ready to fail.

Tried to bodge it up and get it home, but had no luck there. Internet said that the valve, when on cold, was a total blockage. Thus I figured if I blocked the hose and the valve was on cold, I could drive it home. Not the case! :-D
On the brighter side, I found a few things in the garage, including the heater valve from the caravan! So I can install that tomorrow street side and be back up and running ASAP :-)

And then tried to insert a replacement in the always-on position. Fail. Hose wouldn't reach. IE hoses are not fully original, and original valve was under some stress from rubber tension.
So now I have a piece of rusty steel tube and rust coated rubber 90 degree hose soaking in oxalic acid in the kitchen for installation tomorrow evening.
Next stop, scrap metal merchant to deliver a bunch of BMW bits and some batteries.

Replacement valve jammed wide open/hot installed and tested on pick up mission across town. Holds pressure.
Next up, coolant flush with a detergent and then an acid, and then sodium carbonate flush to neutralise the last of it.
Currently in use as storage of a load of ex-BMW steel off to the scrap merchant "real soon now" along with some batteries.

This poor thing has no tstat. And it occurred to me the other night driving home in the winter night air that perhaps the 400km/70l economy is partly due to the rich mixture because the ECU thinks it's cold. Oops.
