A drag racing thread for shamefully un-FreeEMSed vehicles. If your ride is on FreeEMS, put it in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=2686 or comment here: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=2688

If it's still running a factory ECU, or some other standalone (shame on you!), then you can post it here, instead. Unlike the exclusive FreeEMS thread, this thread is comments inclusive. Comment away. This first post will hold the list and be updated periodically and/or on demand.

  1. Fred in Stagea: 17.163 @ 78.57mph
  2. Who's next?

Good luck!

I hereby enter this thread! I did four (4) runs in my rather heavy 98 4wd Neo/VVT RB25DE powered Stagea wagon last night. In order they were:

  • 17.627 @ 77.21mph with 2.587 60'
  • 17.765 @ 76.81mph with 2.636 60'
  • 17.758 @ 76.67mph with 2.595 60'
  • 17.163 @ 78.57mph with 2.379 60'

And for that last one, here's the slip: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 3377383426

The day before race day, I went to retrieve the caravan to populate it with things and stuff and found this: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 0215631872

Earlier in the evening when we showed up FULLY prepared our secure storage race head quarters looked a lot like this: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 9975174144

And the sky looked like this: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 1586432003

And all was well and right in the world. Some time later my car looked like this: https://twitter.com/FredCookeNZ/status/ ... 3791416321

That's after returning home and getting a spot of rain overnight. The focus wasn't on my car or efforts, as this was just a baseline, so there aren't many/any more photos to share of the mighty Stagea from yesterday evening.

What differed between the runs? Well, in order, these were the approaches:

  • Floored it on the green and went
  • Held it on the torque converter and got off the brake on the green
  • Held it on the torque converter and got off the brake on the green
  • Pulled it into drive at 3k to 4k and floored it simultaneously

As you can see, that last ruthless brutal run produced a significant half second improvement over my best run prior. Who knows how many launches like that it'd do before leaving a puddle of ATF on the ground, and not intending to find out, nor wanting to waste fuel on slow runs, I opted out of the free-for-all of grudge racing runs throughout the night and did just these four. The last run technique resulted in a chirping of briefly spinning tyres off the line and then a very similar run the rest of the way down the track except passing the line at a clearly higher speed further into third gear.

State of the car:

  • Floor mats removed
  • Spare tyre and toolkit removed
  • Floor of rear cargo space removed
  • Bone stock vehicle with HPR10 group III oil, normal coolant, 200ps when brand new, unknown ATF, unknown diff oil

I reckon with a manual box and a good clutch there'd be another 0.5 seconds out of that time and a much better 4wd 60 foot time. You could probably just dump the clutch at 7k or so and keep it pinned until you hit the shift point.
