I recently picked up this used 2014 Nissan Versa Note SV as a fuel-sipping family vehicle. It is what it is.

Powertrain:
  • Engine: 1.6L DOHC 16V I4 HR16DE (w/ VVT)
    • 9.8:1 compression
    • 78mm bore, 83.6mm stroke
    • 109hp at 6000 RPM
    • 107 lb-ft at 4400 RPM
    • 4 valve head
  • Transmission: CVT automatic (FWD transaxle)

Goals:

DE means port injected, so running the engine is just a matter of understanding the VVT and whether it can be run without controlling it, or not, and what sort of decoder it'd need. The factory ECU might also control the CVT, or that could be separate with some sort of bus between them to assist in optimum ratio control/throttle input.

Is it DBW? That'd be useful! :-D I have one on my desk... ;-)

Not DBW. The service manual, strangely, is wide open on the internet in its original digital form and doesn't seem to be annoying Nissan at all. I'll start investigating the controller arrangement.

Port injected and not DBW, all you have to do is find out these things:

1) Crank/Cam signals, signal types, with precise angles, and pin out
2) CHT sensor curve details
3) IAT sensor type, and if good, curve details, if not good, how to easily rewire to a faster type
4) O2 type, location, wiring
5) External MAP? If so, wiring, and calibration data
6) Ground and power scheme so as to be able to connect things up correctly
7) Injector wiring scheme/pin out
8) Coil type, ignitor type, voltage requirements, pin outs, ignitor behaviour if not dumb, etc.

And probably other similar stuff, but you could get going with just 1,2,5,6,7,8 if you really wanted to. 3 can be configured to a fixed value 4 can be done by ear/feel/balls like #1 was. :-)

However I reckon you should focus on tuning the truck first, lol. Your sheer will power in ignoring the state of tune on that truck is impressive to say the least! :-D

Thanks for the useful info. Not in any hurry with this one nor have the money readily available to build a new ECU, just happy to have a placeholder until that day comes.
