Oh for sure, I confidently jumped in my car, and wished him a pleasant evening, with a smile, through the sunroof before driving away. But yes, a bad experience indeed. Wasted a couple of hours of my time, too. Shit happens. Onward and upward.

Yeah, store it in Auckland? :-D More seriously, I have thought about that, as the ute will need it, as will the Volvos once they are modified. I'd like something like the following:

• Flashing LED to deter
• Starter cut until auth (to prevent starter wear out of frustration)
• ECU immobilise until auth (to prevent moving under own power)
• Entry without pre-auth = text with GPS location sent to me (alert that the car has been opened)
• No auth within 10 seconds of entry = phone call to me
• GPS stream of texts (minutely?) or via web while not authed (web not available in remote places and more expensive to maintain many connections for many cars)
• Remote controlled siren and/or hazard lights, etc (not automatic, I hate that)

Still, that takes time to install and setup, I'd not even laid eyes on this, let alone finger tips. Next one will get a spot in the garage with the ute. Hotel needs a new engine and a WOF so it's not burning space.

That would be a neat system Fred.. would take some time to create though.
Dont forget some accelerometers.. stealing cars with a trailer/towtruck is a time honored
tradition among car thieves in europe.

Probably fairly popular with high-dollar stuff here, too? But not your run of the mill idiot thief with a screwdriver and a hammer.

It would take a while to come up with something like that, but if you used an android as a base, and did most of it with just a simple android app, that aspect would be easy enough. Charging it not difficult. GPS reception levels would need to be managed with clever placement behind plastic stuff and not shielded by accident, etc.

I wonder if accelerometer, or low frequency GPS with tolerance is the better bet? Hmmm.

Gone, lost, but not forgotten. Today I scored a pair of GTO turbo calipers for 40nzd. I had a KP in mind. If not, they'll be good on something. Pretty good condition, too, and to suit a 30mm rotor. Pics at some point, but not tonight. Months away from affording a replacement car, too, sadly :-(
